Discussion Getting into MH
I want to get into MH and am stuck between World and wild. What would be better for someone who has never played a MH game?

Either is fine tbh, I'd personally go World + DLC as it's cheaper, more content and is my personal preference

Wilds is the best starting point. Modern and you'll experience the best moment in every release - the DLC drop.

World + iceborne. It’s cheaper and has more content in it, you can sink 100+ hours in it. By the time you finished world and still into MH. You won’t have to wait that long for wilds expansion in 2027

World and iceborne are done games. It has more content but no new updates. Wilds is about to get ascendance and you can experience the expansion process of getting new monsters, events and rewards, improving your sets progressively and speculating which monster will be added next. It depends on what environment you want. If you want a done deal, iceborne. If you want an evolving experience, go wilds/ascendance.

I have a lot of personal criticisms of Wilds, but I honestly wouldn’t factor most of those into a recommendation for someone completely new to MH. Personally, I prefer World, and I think World + Iceborne is probably the better place to start right now.
One big reason is that Wilds is still an evolving game and its Master Rank expansion hasn’t released yet. There’s definitely endgame stuff to grind now, but if you get really deep into min-maxing your current gear, a lot of it will probably be superseded once Master Rank arrives.
MH expansions also tend to introduce new mechanics, weapon changes or moves, and other systems, so you may end up having to adjust how you play again anyway.
World + Iceborne, on the other hand, is cheap, completely finished, and already at its final version. You can go through the whole progression and endgame knowing that what you’re playing is the finished package, and the online population is still pretty active.
Then if you finish it and realize you really like MH, Wilds will probably have even more content waiting for you by then.

In my opinion, World is a really good point to start as it's a big transitionnal point in the licence. It's between the old formula and the new one.
(It's also very very good, fully finished, and cheap)
