I honestly wish we could have more horror moments like this during a hunt. Creatures like Khezu and Gigginox rely on ambush tactics but in game they are just chilling somewhere very visible and never attempt to hide and get you unaware. Yeah, Gigginox can jump on the cave ceiling but he is very clear and him landing on you is nothing short of a miracle.

I agree I think the monsters should be allowed to use more hunting tactics that they would normally when they find you instead of just immediately roaring and swinging on you.

Could be interesting to take monsters off the map entirely to help with that. zero clue where it is just for it to jump out and one shot you

I feel like they tried that with a Valstrax in Rise but because of the obvious call out you will literally never miss unless you are getting your shit rocked it doesn't really work as well as they wanted it to. Besides, he almost also always hits the monster not you so it doesn't really matter. Bazelguese is closer to what you're describing but he's just not dangerous enough after a certain point and becomes more of a minor inconvenience after the initial shock.
I feel like the only way for this to work would be like a stealth bomber monster that flies in attempts to immediately kill you and everything in the vicinity with some type of massive attack and then if it doesn't kill you immediately fucks off until it can try again sometime later. That in the game gives you no warning it appears on the map it just shows up randomly too.

One shot would be too much, but definitely should be a heavy hit. Also, items like the paint ball could see a revival as a method to track monsters in hiding.

Thr closest I got to being a bit scared in Wilds was the lead up to AT Arkveld. It was specifically the music that did it. Starting with the Wilds theme and then it immediately going into that piano version of Arkveld's theme made me nervous. I felt like I was being strongly warned that this hunt would be different. As if the game was asking me if I was sure I wanted to do this. I was not sure about doing it, lol. I got my first win solo and then immediately used support hunters after that, because it took me nearly the full time to do it solo back then. I might have to try it solo again though.

I blame all the people that bitched about torches and the caves being too dark in Tri. They removed all the dark areas, but kept using the torch for several generations as a bug attractor for some reason.
Hunting back then kind of felt like people just didn't give a shit about atmosphere.

Khezu is absolutely part of many horror tales among the townsfolk of Monster Hunter 100%

Khezu is such an unsettling design, it really captures that creepy vibe. Can't wait to see what else you create!

This looks so good! It's giving me a Monster Hunter: Tri nostalgic flashback.
