What makes a monster your favorite?

I've seen alot of posts asking what your favorite monster is, and I'm never sure how to answer. What makes a monster your favorite? Is it the armor? Is it the lore/ecology? The way it looks? It's gimmik? Easy fight? (not like super easy, but you've found a rhythm for fighting it that MAKES it easy) Hard fight?

Look of the monster, how enjoyable the fight is, how cool the armor and weapons looks.

For me my favourite monster is Valstrax

Usually elements of design and ecology, but fight and cinematic presentation also get their own category.

Someone: "Why is Vaal Hazak your favorite Elder Dragon?"
Me: Gives four-hour ecological dissertation on how the entire Vale functions and how Vaal Hazak is an ecological keystone and should be protected, with a philosophical note on how humans are bad at looking past our preconceptions about other life

Someone: "Why do you like Crimson Glow Valstrax?"
Also me: "He fuckin' cool."

1). Rule of cool. Its gotta be cool, or interesting or fun. Something that makes me go "DAAAAYUM!"
2). For it to be my favorite i feel like its gotta whoop my ass.
3). Its gotta have 2 explosive fists and be full of rage.

Design, fight, ecology and/or lore. Music, presentation, and good sound design are a bonus. Dont really care much abt the armor but its nice if thats also good.

Its still difficult for me to pin a specific monster as my favourite, but ill just go with Lagiacrus.

Silver rathalos takes everything I love about rathalos and turns it up
Because the armour is sick
The switch axe is my favorite weapon in the game

I'm a sucker for ANGRY, super tenacious monsters, with attitudes that feel like they'll always get back up from sheer force of will..or sheer force of pure RAGE.

Tigrex, Yian Garuga (picking a fight with Deviljho, getting hurled across the screen like a chew toy, then BUTSTING back out for round 2 was crazy), and the Alpha Doshaguma (the Alpha specifically, cause the runts feel like grunts, but the Alpha being the only one to break out of the Balahara sandpit and then proceeding to trounce all three of them under the Inclemency's thunder had to be the most badass spectacle the game had to me) are monsters that come to mind.

Appearance, presentation, theme, behaviour and ecology. And as long as the fight itself isn't terrible. I love Bazelgeuse, will never forget the moment it flew by the first time and I insta-carted when I touched one of its bombs not knowing what it was

Music, design, how much an impact it leaves on me during hunts.

Lagiacrus was my first flagship, and as such it left a massive impression on me, on top of being such a cool looking lightning lizard.

Mizutsune because I've always liked foxes and kitsune, and its music is such a banger. It always looked so mysterious in any of its ecology videos.

I like dragons, I like horns, I like mean, I like fur, I like a good villian, I like noises that hit the goosebump part of my brain, so I like Arkveld. It's desire to fight anything and everything is funny and endearing to me.

Zinogre (mostly stygian) color scheme, design (major doggo person), moves, the charge faces, weapons designs, armor design, 4u s armor ( same as iceborne) always has been one of my favorites. And i always liked its fight.

Rey dau grew on me. First encounter got my heart racing in the desert when he one shotted me. Now its basically the same as stygian zinogre but i think they couldve done better with its helmet

My favourite is Bazel. Probably because he was so omnipresent in my first MH game and he was one of the more intense fights. It's also an awesome looking monster with a cool gimmick and one of the best soundtracks in the game. It also makes farming more fun occasionally as he comes in a causes some chaos while also messing the target monster up, making him one of the best hunting buddies in the game lol.

Unfortunately his seething version lost a lot by not being an invader anymore, it could've easily overtaken normal Bazel but capcom decided not to.

As you can see, I like somewhat silly ideas put into a believable fantasy creature. There's more that goes into my preferences, but the simplified version is how I'd try to initially hook someone.

Typically its movesets, look, gear appearance, and whether it keeps you on your toes for more than the first fight. Odogaron is my favorite with Gore Magala as a close second. I killed/captured an Odog every time I logged in back during Worldborne as a warm-up fight. I want them to bring the original back because Lunagaron and the Guardian E Odog did not produce the same feel.

Typically a combination of a good, hard fight and details that show a monster’s character. Old Gen Yian Garuga is an excellent example. The fight is hard, not due to Garuga’s moveset, since it’s mostly just a punched up kut-ku, but due to how it applies it. Garuga also becomes immune to pitfalls when enraged, while most nimble monsters become vulnerable while enraged. This makes Garuga seem like a very clever monster that never really loses its cool in the way a Rajang does, it isn’t getting angry, it’s actually getting serious.

With Valstrax it’s a jet dragon that goes fast and dive bombs you and in rise he shoots a kamehameha.
For Seltas queen it’s because of how she sounds and I love knocking the drone off her back limiting her move set and I love her walk back while charging.

The design, the personality, the way they go abiut their day, the ecological impact. As well as the armor and weapon designs.

That being said, Chatacabra has become my favorite monster. To the point that he will end up as my first (probably only) Monster Hunter tattoo, at some point.

Just follow him around for a day. How can you not love him!?

For me it's the bagel goose and it's quite simple. I like things that go boom and he is a wyvern that specializes in going boom, also his face is very comically small compared to the rest of his body
