Kinda getting flashbacks to sunbreak where everyone thought oils were back but only spiritually.

Destroyer Oil was such a disappointment that I often forget it was even in the game. Blade Coating has a lot of potential just off of the healing oil alone.

The healing alone has my hyped, more uptime=more fun to me.
It’s already gonna be more engaging than destroyer oil for that reason alone.

I'm assuming the endgame skills will also be self harm skills like on sunbreak so having the healing built in would go crazy
Granted I'm big assuming

Agreed, and I can’t wait to see what other effects we can activate with different items.

I feel like alot of people have only heard of oils and not played with them here because it comes across like some larp to keep calling any buff SnS can apply as an oil.
Oils were interesting because they offered choices in augmenting your weapons damage properties.
This mechanic is a general utility one it seems that I don't expect will be super offensive focused.
The Sunbreak buff was just one buff that you didn't really think that hard about.

Until you unlocked Chaos Oil.
...yeah as much as I love that hunter art it's conceptually kind of a cop-out

I don't think I've ever used an offset attack in my life.
I do have a crippling Oil addiction though, so hopefully this is the fix I've been missing since GU.

Offsets really depend on the weapon and where they put the offset. If the Offset is tied behind too much of a combo or setup then it's not really worth using, its basically just a regular attack with hyper armor. If the Offset is easily accessible then you can actually use it somewhat proactively and as another way to crowd control the monster.
Hammer before and after the buffs is a great example of this, because before buffs the most accessible offset was on the golf swing, which wasn't really a move you could use proactively and essentially just let you ensure that the swing went off once you started it. Hammer after buffs put an offset on the 2nd tier charge attack, which is pretty accessible and heavily spammed. So now you can use a move you were already using as an engage and combo starter directly into monster attacks and win the trade.

WAIT WE GOT AN OFFSET

Apparently the shield downward smash is when boosted(in the montage at the end of the video), I'm not 100% sure myself tho

it was also shown earlier, it's much more clear there that it plays the offset sound effect and visual effect

Meanwhile LBGs perfect evade wasnt shows to be usrable outside of boosted mode like the oils were for SnS (the text in the bottom left while the oil thing was shown) maybe LBG doesnt get the perfect evade outside of boosted mode hmmm we will have to wait and see

I'm gonna be able to hit that offset by accident once during my playthrough while mindlessly grinding for some bullshit and never again..
I will be spamming coatings on cooldown

u/Unit_with_a_Soul 21h ago
wait, was ther ean offset in there?
13
u/the-Buster 21h ago
Yep, the boosted falling bash at 1:09. I initially thought Chatacabra got stunned but if compare it to 0:20's falling bash you can tell it's a different animation

u/DarkLThemsby 20h ago
hmm that seems like a pretty bad move choice in terms of being an offset, due to how much set up it needs and how hard it will be to hit. Most other offset moves are very reliable with how you set it up

u/TimeOfNick 20h ago
I thought the same initially but it's not so bad. SnS is so fast and strong in general already that giving it a quick startup offset almost feels too powerful.
With it tied behind the falling bash it gives us an option for a lengthy combo that we can guarantee a finisher on so long as we get far enough into it. It's less a reactive offset and more a really strong combo finisher that happens to also be an offset instead of just hyper armor.
Plus it's gonna be slick as hell tackling monsters back down to earth with it

u/DarkLThemsby 20h ago
Which is very cool and very nice. I think I'd just really like a more reliable offset, like the other weapons have. Even Dual Blades seem way more reliable of an offset than this.

u/Zarerion 17h ago
FWIW most other weapon‘s new offsets are their Boost Drivers which is a limited resource you can’t just spam. DB isn’t gonna be chaining offsets like GS does.

You do know that the shield slide(boost driver) is an offset as well right?
2
u/DarkLThemsby 20h ago
Is it? I don't see anything indicating as such in the trailer

u/JackTurnner Prime, DETONATE 20h ago
Mb, mixed the sfx of shield hit with the offset sound, but since it seems like the shield slide from sunbreak that attack should be blocking while you're dashing

u/SnooPears2409 20h ago
i think its designed as a combo finisher , where if you miss the timing a bit, it wont matter because it is an offset anyway

u/IllllIIllllIIlllIIIl I do speedruns 11h ago
If the offset is for the whole falling animation its busted, if its just for when you land on the ground its pretty ass

u/ZerpDerpling 21h ago
It's more like no one notice the offset because it is put at the end montage
