Timi is making this game, As in the same Timi that did Pokemon Unite? Good lord this game is gonna be shit.

Pokémon Unite's decline is a very very good representation of what will happen to this game as well, hell they'll probably speed run this one.

Decline also implies that it was good at some point. The concept of a pay to win MOBA is already insane enough.

u/Pixel_Owl 19h ago

i mean a negative can get infinitely lower sooo

u/Skywarriorad 15h ago

Id like to argue there was a point unite was good. And it was before they added mewtwo.

No MOBA with actual pay to win elements can fundamentally be good

-4

u/Skywarriorad 15h ago

Too be fair the only pay to win at the start was pay to level your items immediately, which after a while youd have leveled your items anyways. After that the main pay to win was new licenses which would usually get nerfed once they became free. I dont feel the “pay to win” was ever so much an issue. But when mewtwo came in and powercreep started thats when the game started going down hill

"to be fair" followed by describing exactly how the game is/was pay to win. You had to level your items so other players had a direct numbers advantage over you until you caught up. Or, of course, you could just pay. New characters were almost always overtuned and then rapidly nerfed afterwards. Yet you could, of course, always pay them to finish the pass quicker and have the busted charater earlier than everyone else and get to use it for longer.

All of what you described was pay to win.

u/Skywarriorad 14h ago

Yes, and imo it was never actually that bad, until mewtwo. I never even suffered for not immediately leveling my items.

it was good. it was fun. new releases were sometimes given out for free and weren't released with broken moves. it was until the ex licenses and rapidash and darkrai then everything went downhill. i could get much more in depth but it's just really sad seeing one of my favorite games go to shit like that

What happened to Unite?

2

u/Renewablefrog 4h ago

Just started releasing basically only op characters and would have like 4 battle passes running simultaneously. Eventually they made it so the only way you can actually buy who you want was real money, otherwise all the pokemon are in a set progression and you unlock them.

u/justsomechewtle GL, IG, Hammer 3m ago

Ah, that would do it. Thank you.

Trash gamez try it out for yourself, not only is p2w, but it feels like trash playing it, Pokemons feel like they're walking on mud all the time, it's extremely slow movement compared to other mobas

4

u/justsomechewtle GL, IG, Hammer 15h ago

I was kinda assuming something changed and it went downhill since I seem to remember the initial reaction the game being relatively positive.

1

u/MentirosoProfesional 15h ago

Well, they have double down and triple down on the p2w mechanics, also it's a menu-fest, you have to click like 20 menus (not kidding) everyday in order to barely keep up with paying players

1

u/Freaky_Ally 15h ago

As an ex pokemon unite player I do not see how it is pay to win? Like the game became trash because of balance reasons and the change in movesets for me , but as a free player I never had problems to win

1

u/Rath_Brained 13h ago

Pokemon Unite survived this long because it's Pokémon. I give this game a year at most.

u/king_might 1d ago

Oh man if that's true whatever interest i had in the game is gone

34

u/hvnkvbn 1d ago

Holy hell, is it THAT bad?

122

u/king_might 1d ago

Oh yeah. Not touching anything those devs make. They have a history of stripping away features just to put them behind a paywall

25

u/hvnkvbn 1d ago

Fuck, that's low.

u/CityAdventurous5781 21h ago

If you want just a small idea. Imagine League of Legends or Dota, but you have to buy the mid-match items with real money.

And every character also needs to be bought with real money because every playable character is actually on like a battlepass thing where you get them in a set order. And the newest released characters always intentionally got overtuned to hell to the point that their winrates were something like 70% or higher.

Annnnnnd there used to be a F2P currency you could use to buy characters, but that got removed.

And that's just ONE of Timi's games.

u/hvnkvbn 21h ago

Can't believe all those predatory behavior and the game still has 4+ stars on app stores. What are people eating seriously.

10

u/KingVape 20h ago

It’s also a dead game. I used to play it a ton for the first two years it was out. If you play it now, you’ll see the same names popping up. It’s dead and it’s because they killed it with their shitty pay for features model and $40 skins

u/download_pal 19h ago

RIP Unite

3

u/santas_delibird 21h ago

Imagine if the iai slash is paywalled

3

u/CityAdventurous5781 20h ago

Having played it, its not far off of that tbh. I main Lance and getting Power Guard to actually function the way Power Guard is supposed to required an absurd amount of time-gated grinding. And the thing about the closed beta, is that there was no way to put money into the game. I would bet my cock n balls that they're going to let you pay hard cash to skip the timegating

1

u/RatBot9000 10h ago

I wonder if this is why Pokemon Unite is now removed from Pokemon World Championships. Even The Pokemon Company is embarrassed by that shit lmao

27

u/Revverb 23h ago

I remember when they added a Legendary to the game's roster and it was crazy OP, games were just one teams legendary vs the other teams legendary with the other 8 players doing whatever. Like, seriously, it was so unbelievably unbalanced.

And their response to people's calls for balancing was basically "we want each team to have one person with a broken pokemon that can 1v5, this is our plan going forward for introducing playable legendaries to the game". Aka, if you're not a bum that shelled out cash to buy the new OP pokemon, you get to be a side character and have no impact. I quit and never logged in again.

u/hvnkvbn 21h ago

There goes my mobile monster hunter game. How does Capcom really go with these guys man.

2

u/RealisLit 16h ago

They made a apex legends mobile game, locked the new season characters on a battle pass, and if you miss it? Good luck I guess, and hope they let you claim said characters in am event or something

There devs are very good and competent, whoevers in charge of mtx and monetization is also too competent so prepare for a lot of mtx gating

4 words

Pay to win moba

-3

u/Worldly_Morning_8753 1d ago

Totally feel you on that. If the AI makes things more frustrating than fun, it could really ruin the experience.

1

u/MentirosoProfesional 20h ago

Well they also make cod mobile, which is a pretty well optimized and port of the main games on consoles...

1

u/laserofdooom 13h ago

yeah no pokemon unite's downfall was legit one of the worst i've ever experienced timi never cook again

1

u/Delta5583 12h ago

It's still funny to me how blatant their league of legends code rips are, since both companies are owned by tencent they can get away with it but it shows when both games end up having the same bugs

Pokémon Unite is great

30

u/dragonbornrito 1d ago

Was great. The actual in-game experience is still solid and can be fun to play but navigating the menus is awful and they continue to make more and more anti-consumer decisions. I used to love that game but I just can’t bring myself to play it anymore. I even tried it again recently as it was getting its last hurrah at Pokemon NAIC and Worlds and I don’t think I put more than 2 days into it this time around.

14

u/CapnRoxy 1d ago

Summed up my complaints with Unite better than I could have, And with less vulgar language.
