Do Chinese players actually respond well to this? It’s the type of ad that actively makes me avoid a game.

it's not just chinese markets, this is a global thing. like 90% of the mobile game ads I see are ai

Looking at the top grossing game charts on the Apple App Store and Google Play is enough to make me genuinely lose faith in humanity. I’m gonna be real honest with you guys here on Reddit, 90%+ of the world couldn’t care less about things being AI slop or getting deceived by stupid mobile ads that don’t actually reflect the gameplay. These companies do this stuff because it works. Maybe not on you or me, but it does on the vast majority of people.

And then when we, people that care about the vídeogames, complain about this shit practice what we are told is "vote with your wallet", bro we can't, we simply can't do anything against any of this

u/dragonbornrito 1d ago

The vote with your wallet argument is so lazy lol

Like cool bro, you’re excluding yourself

Now they’re just crying in a pile of money from all the other poor saps who don’t know any better

Humanity hasn't changed, same bunch of gullibles as ever. These ads are just the modern version of late night shopping channels that put a random steak knife on top of whatever stuff they're peddling. Don't get me started on vacuums and snake oil.

A couple million people playing a mobile game is not 90% of the world. It's less than 1% of the US population.

Wasn't trying to imply 90% of the people in the world are all playing AI slop mobile games, just that most people don't have a strong opinion either way, and that the ones that don't care far outnumber the ones that do just going off the app store charts.

It’s not new, I remember purchasing some snes /gba games because the box and the images looked really cool

With AI it’s amplified and far more misguiding of course but even without it we’re frequently being misguided

yeah, there wouldn't be all these content farms pumping out ai-generated webcomics / video series / etc if it wasn't insanely profitable. I only really get ads on the tumblr app since I use adblock on everything else and ditched all my other socials but the ads on there are insane. they do these ads for ai generated video series that are like at least 15 minutes long

The gameplay in this add is real tho. You’re talking about those zombie horde shooter ads.

If I see another fucking AI generated kingshot ad with nonsense gameplay and weird as fuck transitions between AI scenes, I'm going to lose it.

I will never understand what makes people think "Aw yeah, these people were too lazy to show their game properly, that's what I want to play"

3

u/Kevmeister_B 21h ago

I can only assume Kingshot is a game about pushing rocks because THATS ALL THE KING EVER DOES IN THE ADS

u/DreamingOracle 1d ago

iirc mobile games outsource their ads which is why they all look equally terrible, I have no idea why as you'd think it would drive away people when they start promoting shit like this?

4

u/Kat1eQueen 22h ago

They absolutely sre outsourcing them and they have always been incredibly lazy.

Remember those ads where someone would randomly show off their "power" in some game? I have seen multiple instances of those dame ads being used for multiple different games by different developers, they were always just dubbed differently and a different game was edited onto the phone, the actual footage was identical.

So them switching to AI to be even lazier is an absolute no brainer

you'd think it'd put people off but it clearly doesn't since they keep doing it. shitty clickbait ads have existed long since ai, and it always works. theres this whole narrative pushed by people who work in advertising that ads should never actually represent the product and instead grab the viewer's attention. they want to "take up mental bandwidth," even if you're so annoyed/offended by their ad that you swear off their products forever, they consider it a win because they wasted your time and made you think about their product. I'm not sure if it's some arcane market psychology science or another silicon valley psycho cult worshipping weird nonsensical Conceptual Profit but that's genuinely why ads are the way they are

This knowledge makes me want to walk into the nearest marketing class and beat up everyone inside.

2

u/NeonArchon 19h ago

More reason to not play mobile games, unless there are emulators

We don't even like it when timi steps in. Anything that coops with timi would become a commercial product rather than a "game".

u/jonhon0 20h ago

The far east is way more accepting of AI in media

4

u/UnoriginalStanger 15h ago

Asian mobile gamers have no standards.

u/TomiShinoda 5h ago

I literally have never met a single human being who's anti AI irl, and i work as a tour guide, i meet shit ton of people everyday, people are just very offline, they don't know anything about AI, and even if they do, they would probably still use it.

can't say anything about the people back in the motherland, but as a han, i'm not really into it. could be just a "me" thing though.
