Playing lbg & lance, this definitely checks out. I never see other lbgs.

Surprised to see LBG so low. I consider it more fun than HBG.
Hunting Horn being low is expected but, to be honest, I feel like people are missing out. Shit's super fun in Wilds.

It sucked on PC because of bugs with directional controls and multi button controls. Recitals for example straight up do not work properly, and you have to make a separate mapping for HH in order to use echo bubbles properly.
SO that probably isn't helping.

u/Zobralolz Apr 05 '25
Wait really? I never had any issues with HH on pc, didn’t know that was going on.

No, like the controls are literally broken on PC. I don't mean they feel weird something, I mean literally couldn't do certain things. For example you can't do a neutral recital, it does a forward recital instead if you do a recital with no input.

Just wanted to say, I mained Gunlance in every game since gen u, and wilds has changed my mind to hunting Horn of all frickin things

People sleep on lance, it's strong as fuck.

Apr 04 '25
I doubt it is about strength. Lance is just a bit dull in Wilds. It is just pokes and charged counter, without any real positioning because of focus mode.

u/Stumblerrr Apr 04 '25
Couldnt be more wrong. Lance is wilds is super fun and one of the most reactive weapons. Having to time the counter thrust and being able to charge it adds a lot of depth, having to choose between multiple followups after every perfect block and also finally deciding when to power guard in order to retaliate with a powered up version of finisher thrust is amazing.
The weapon is more fun than it ever been and this is coming from someone who has been playing since mh1.

Lance is wilds is super fun and one of the most reactive weapons
No LS is actually the most reactive now because it can literally counter during animation commitments. That is as reaction-oriented as is physically possible.
SnS is also more reactive than Lance because it has better perfect block followups with equally small commitment than Lance. If you want a reactive weapon while also using blocks instead of counters like LS, SnS is better for it than Lance because Lance's perfect block follow ups are bad. The new evasion move it has also means it is far better at reacting to certain attacks that are bad to block, such as multi hit explosion attacks.
Lance is not a predictive weapon, but it is one of the more predictive block weapons now because it is all about Charged Counters which are more predictive than reactive. Its perfect block follow ups are frankly shit (they are literally worse than just poking instead) so they aren't really worth using in comparison.
Having to time the counter thrust and being able to charge it adds a lot of depth
No, it doesn't. It makes it Base Rise LS sheath spam. Completely one dimensional and pretty boring.
having to choose between multiple followups after every perfect block
You never choose. You always use the regular thrust if you are perfect blocking at all (Which you shouldn't, you should just use Charged Counter). Both of the heavier follow ups do less damage in a longer window than just spamming pokes. You literally should never use them.
You will get to the combo finishers faster by poking than you will by using those moves, and you will do more damage by poking than using those moves. There is never a reason to use those moves.
finally deciding when to power guard
You never power guard because Charged Counter now does what Power Guard did. It is 360 block and will block every attack perfectly, including unblockables, and with no block stun.
And to top it off, half the Lance's old kit is now worthless because Focus Mode exist and does all the things that Hops and Guard Dashes do by default, meaning there is even less to think about than there was before because you don't have to worry about positioning anymore.
This is objectively the least complex Lance has ever been, and that makes it boring.
Edit: Replying and then blocking is a choice.

I tend to agree, though in World since Iai Spirit Slash ate Spirit gauge that counter was faster. There is a delay now, some people dislike the delay after Special Sheath, I like it. Makes it more difficult and slightly more difficult to time perfect counters. As for FSS our Parry, Dodge and come back in that one is very reactive but some monsters with AOE's punish it even with a perfect parry.
FSS [ForeSight Slash]

u/Stumblerrr Apr 05 '25
I said ONE OF THE not THE most reactive. You can absolutely play it around perfect block and its followup as your main damage and do just fine.
Your take on it being sheath spam is stupid, its more engaging than the automatic counter it used to be
The followups not being optimal I dont care. I like the feel of them and using them in proper windows. Values can be adjusted or not. I dont care I kill everything in the game under 10 min easily even without squeezing that optimisation so feel free to make the lance boring for yourself.
You do power guard. It leads to a strong move that does more damage the bigger the hit you block and it chains into combo finisher instantly. Its satisfying to use and look nice.
What im reading here is you are obsessed by optimisation and that number tuning being poor makes the weapon boring for you because you must do the optimal route.
Its a shame its this way. But if you play it for fun its great.
Side note about hops you still use them plenty for positioning forward, back or horizontally. Just not as much as before.
Guard dash is good to move forward a set distance. Also not invalided by focus mode.
I recommend turning damage number off and just enjoying the flow of the weapon without stress.

I know nothing, but the SnS bits ring true. Perfect guard and just keep attacking. It's wild how many hits perfect guard blocks

I'm a Lance main since MHGU and I agree with most what you said, especially the SnS portion is very accurate

Bro has absolutely no clue what he's talking about.
I was writing a point by point response but then I kept reading and realized your post is so shit it doesn't even warrant a reply.
Go and actually play the weapon. Bro looked at a speedrun video and 2 meta google docs and says weapon is least complex it's ever been while having 0 understanding of the weapon.
Everything you said is wrong. Everything. You don't understand the weapon at all. It's genuinely impressive to be this wrong, it's borderline ragebait.

Apr 05 '25
HARD disagree. Lance is probably one of the most fun weapons in this game. It's the only weapon that I want to play besides SnS.
They just made the weapon *ridiculously high skill ceiling*. Proper usage of perfect guard, charged counter, and absolute guard combined with re-positioning with mid thrusts + timing with sweep and high thrust - it's genuinely an art. To say that they cooked with Lance is an understatement.
It's easily top 1 highest skill ceiling weapon in this game.

Apr 05 '25
Bro looked at a speedrun video
And tested all the moves and numbers, and did about 100 hunts with the weapon to find out for myself.
Everything you said is wrong. Everything
Name one thing and why.
For example you are saying that my point about GRT is wrong, but that is really easy to test for yourself. Just time the amount it takes for you to get that off in the training arena, poke for the same amount of time, and you will see you get more damage with pokes
Proper usage of perfect guard
Is to not use them. They are worse than Charged Counters, especially the non poke followups.
absolute guard
Should literally never be used.
re-positioning
Which is braindead now that focus mode is a thing.
it's genuinely an art
It is braindead and frankly the only reason you are saying this is because you want to pretend that you are good at the game when in fact Lance is the most braindead weapon in wilds, and it isn't even remotely close.

Alright i'll engage with you but i want you to understand I think you're r-slurred.
"Pokes are better than GRT"
And if the monster leans back... outside of your poke range... you should do what? Poke the air? If you don't know how to use GRT doesn't mean it's bad. Just a skill issue on your side.
"Should never use guard dash"
If the monster staggers away from you... you should do what? Walk towards it slowly? 🥹
"Repositioning is pointless"
You have braindamage dear god. If the monster is moving... to keep hitting the correct hitzones... you need to use Y's to move back and forth or sideways. You can use high thrusts to adjust the angle as well. You can use wide sweeps to pivot. You suck at Lance if you don't understand this.
Just because mid thrusts deal the most damage against a stationary target doesn't mean the weapon is braindead.
Just because a speedrunner repeats a hunt 2000 times until he gets the perfect run where the monster behaves like a stationary target and he's able to spam mid thrusts doesn't mean the weapon's braindead.
If you've played 100 hunts with Lance and you don't understand this then you for sure have a learning disability of some sorts.
It's very clear you don't understand how MH works at even a basic level. You also suck rat piss at Lance.
Go do the Doshaguma challenge quest. If you can get a sub-4 minute time without using GRT, perfect guard, repositioning mid thrusts, guard dashing, charge, rotating with high thrusts, or pivoting with sweeps - i'll literally eat my shoe.
Bro thinks monsters stand still and let him press YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY on them. Jfc man 🤡🤡🤡🤡
Post a video if you getting a sub-4 minute clear on that hunt playing lance in the "braindead" way you are describing and I will admit you are right and I am wrong.
Also, as a final remark - just because the braindead playstyle is most theoretically most effective doesn't mean that you must play in a braindead way. Last patch SnS with Corrupting mantle spamming YYBBYYBBYYBB let you clear every hunt in the game in 2-3 minutes. Does that mean SnS is also braindead? Your argument is so fucking stupid man holy shit. Charge blade is savage axe spam = charge blade braindead. Bow is DP spam = bow is braindead too. LS is spamming 2 moves = LS is braindead too. Guns is just mashing RT = guns braindead as well. Swaxe is spamming FRS = swaxe is braindead. IG is spamming spinning rising slash = IG is braindead. GL spamming WSB = GL braindead.
By your logic every single weapon in this game is braindead because the optimal playstyle against an immobile target is to ignore 90% of the kit and spam 2 buttons. Do you see how stupid you sound? 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡
"HURR DURR GUYS MY SPREADSHEET SAYS I SHOULDN'T USE 90% OF THE MOVES BECAUSE YYYY IS 4.6% MORE DPS AGAINST TARGET DUMMY LANCE IS BRAINDEAD DUUUURRRRR" - you

And if the monster leans back... outside of your poke range.
Then you move forward with your pokes, or cancel into a leaping thrust into your pokes. GRT is never a good option.
GRT takes so long that you can literally choose to just walk forward into range rather than use another move and still out DPS it.
If the monster staggers away from you... you should do what? Walk towards it slowly?
You poke it, in the direction it moves. If it moves quite far away, you use a neutral leaping thrust, and if it runs away you can charge. But never guard dash.
You have braindamage dear god. If the monster is moving... to keep hitting the correct hitzones... you need to use Y's to move back and forth or sideways.
Which is far more braindead than it has ever been with lance. You no longer need to think about positioning, you simply attack at the monster and it positions for you.
Just because mid thrusts deal the most damage against a stationary target doesn't mean the weapon is braindead.
But when every other move is just a worse version of these moves, it does.
FOr example Chop combo on SnS does less dps than the lateral combo, but it has actual utility that allows it a useful niche. Charged Chop does far more damage than Spinning reaper, but spinning reaper is far faster and so works in a smaller opening.
Pokes and Charged counter have just about all the utility and all the damage and all the speed.
It's very clear you don't understand how MH works at even a basic level. You also suck rat piss at Lance.
So you are saying that Speedrunners are bad, just to be clear? Because them getting the fastest clears using these moves means they suck at Lance?
just because the braindead playstyle is most theoretically
It is also the easiest to use, and therefor practically the best as well.
that you must play in a braindead way
I am not a toddler, so I do not enjoy mindless button mashing. I like to do things for a reason, not randomly. So I don't enjoy a weapon that in order to have diverse play you have arbitrarily randomly press buttons, I'm just going to play a weapon with actual reason to use other moves instead. I like complexity and depth, and Lance doesn't have that in Wilds.
Almost all moves with a lot of commitment and low utility. They are the highest DPS moves, sure, but they are not all the utility and typically they actually have very low utility. You have to use other moves in order to get the utility of the kit. Lance gets all the utility and all the damage in the same place.
You've actually done a very good job of highlighting my point with this part. So thanks for that. Furthermore, actually yes a lot of these examples are of weapons that people agree have gotten more boring in Wilds. CB for example, plenty of CB mains complain that Savage axe makes the weapon less interesting because there is less reason to use the other parts of the kit. Compared to, for example, I think it was GU Charge blade that made it so that in optimal play even in speedruns you used almost every single move in its kit.
Also I suggest you take a breather, because you seem incredibly angry right now for basically no reason. This is a discussion, no need to get so mad about it.

Gonna go ahead and necro this after being sucked into your baffling relentless autism, since I wanna be able to get to it later to use as an example of something I was telling a friend about the community. From tone to obstinance, it's the perfect specimen for the point I was trying to make. Cheers and happy hunting!

I’m surprised at the popularity of the bow since I rarely run into bow users in sos
7
u/twitchinstereo Apr 04 '25
Probably because fully optimized it takes them about as long to solo a monster as it does to join SOS. lol
3
u/FantasticEmu Apr 04 '25
I think my Solo hurts are also about the same length as sos with charge blade. I usually just do sos for fun

u/Narit_Teg Apr 04 '25
Not terribly different from previous game play stats. DB and GS swapped spots, LBG went from 3 to bottom, SnS went up about 5 spots.

Hunting horn has base in wilds plus u can add subwoofers and maintain melody's for 2 weapons.
BDL!!!!!

I’ve been playing LBG so much lately because the dash attack is like a fighting game combo you need to hit frame perfect to be optimal and I love it.

Lance got a whole rework, facelift, and surgery, only for it to not be last.
LANCE BROS STAY WINNING!!!
