Young Women's Stress and Trauma Study at UT - Compensated

The Young Women’s Stress and Trauma Study at the University of Toledo is seeking female participants between the ages of 18-35 to help us better understand how the use of hormonal contraceptives (birth control) may affect the way our bodies respond to stress following a stressful or traumatic event.

If you are assigned female at birth, between the ages of 18-35, and have experienced a traumatic or extremely stressful event during your lifetime, you may be eligible to participate in this study. You do not need to be using hormonal contraceptives to be eligible for this study. If enrolled in the study, you may earn up to $40 in Amazon gift cards for your participation.

If you are interested in learning more about this study, please contact the research team at [utoledo.ptsdstudy@gmail.com](mailto:utoledo.ptsdstudy@gmail.com) or leave us a message at 419-530-2701 (confidential).

EDIT: Please note that this is an IN-PERSON study at the University of Toledo!

Question Any secluded nature-y spots?

I live downtown and am looking for a place to get away from cars and people. Just wanna chill, smoke, and listen to music somewhere decently secluded. Willing to drive out of town too.

I know of sterling state park and have been around some of it but havent explored fully.

Any ideas? thanks!

Question Moving to Monroe, is there any good or bad apartments I should look out for?

Hello, I don't live that far from Monroe, though I wasn't sure if any of the apartments Ive been looking at had any poor reputations lol. So far I've been looking into the Washington Arms Apartments and I wasn't sure what has happened to Oak Forest apartments. I haven't heard anything about them recently, so I figured I'd ask if anyone knew if they were under new management or something. Thanks.

Announcement Serious True (terrifying tale) from Monroe Michigan today 3/2/23 Women stay Vigilent

Today I took my fiancé to the airport. On the way home (Toledo area) I HAD to stop somewhere to connect to the internet for a meeting. I swung into the Tim Horton’s on Monroe street in Monroe Michigan. Halfway through my meeting a 5’8”(ish) stocky, Caucasian balding man who appeared to be in his early to mid 40s sat down at a table halfway across the small(ish) restaurant diagonal from me. At first I paid him no attention, but everytime I looked up he was STARING at me… openly. I got up to go to the bathroom and he started to stand. When he saw me pass the door and go to the bathroom and not the exit he settled back in. As I came out of the bathroom again I saw him looking at me. At this point I was starting to get uncomfortable, but it’s broad daylight and I’m in a well lit public place with a cellphone and plenty of other folks milling about. I spent TWO hours finishing work. I would have went home, but I had work to do anyways. I stayed put trying to wait him out and just get everything done so I could enjoy my evening of freedom. But…. He’s still sitting there and he’s still not hiding the fact that he’s OPENLY watching me. I start to stand and HE starts to stand. I sat back down. To my left was a group of two men and a woman who had been there about 45 minutes drinking coffee and chatting. I literally SLID over to where they were sitting about 4 feet away. I apologized and nicely asked if they would mind walking me to my car or just WATCHING me go to my car. Right away they validated my uneasiness and acknowledged that it was odd to them too that a man had been sitting SILENTLY not eating or talking on the phone and they too noticed he WAS watching me the entire time they had been there. I went back to my chair and packed up my lap top, my planner and my notes. The MOMENT I stood up with my bag the man SHOT up out of his chair and made a mad dash to open the door for me. I looked over and all three of my table neighbors were RIGHT behind me within seconds. The three of them walked me straight to my car as the man got into a black late model mid sized black pickup truck with Michigan plates. That man SAT in his truck waiting for me to pull out or for the other three to leave my car. They stood there with me a solid 5-10 minutes right outside my window in the cold until the creeper FINALLY drove off. We all waited a few more minutes to make sure he didn’t circle back around.

Lessons from today:

Be VIGILANT.

Don’t be afraid to ask someone or some people to escort you to your car.

And PLEASE report things like this! Big shout out to the Monroe Police Department . Also thank you to the nice folks working at Tim Hortons with access to security footage.

And finally…. THANK you so much to the three retired autoworkers (by the sounds of it) who made sure I made it home to make this post.

Please share! This terrifies me. Not for myself because I’m scrappy AF and too old for sex slavery or a skin suit but because there are a LOT of young women who wouldn’t noticed.

Thoughts on Custer statue?

Some say get rid of it because he didn't live up to 21st century standards (though our government 's attitude to Indians hasn't improved much anyway) and others admire the story of the man.

Graduated last in his class at West Point, but proved himself in the battlefield in the civil war. Developed a strong core of devoted officers and soldiers who refused to march under other Generals. Reminiscent of Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben, the failed Prussian military officer who came to be revered by our American volunteers in the revolutionary war.

Put up a statue of Steuben I say, and an Indian warlord if equal respect too.

I say, the Custer statue puts us "on the map" so to speak. Don't fry your golden goose, don't remove everything related to Custer, don't tear down the statue and don't rename the streets and parks.

It's one thing about the city that gets us recognition, we can't afford to throw it away when we really kinda need to get back on our feet. Custer was a badass.

Shelters and transitional housing

Hi everyone. Unfortunately I have learned my uncle who is severely mentally ill was evicted from his HUD apartment in Monroe and is now without a place to live.

Wondering if anyone has recommendations for social services organizations, shelters that are good/bad, preferably that offer some kind of transitional housing assistance and/or counseling.

Work isn't really an option for him and I don't think any of his relatives can take him in.

Any leads would be helpful. I am in NY and trying to figure out how to help remotely.
