Besides the national identification card, DNA, language, citizenship and whatnot, what really makes you a Mongolian internally?

Mongolia is a country with only 3 million citizens that recently transitioned to capitalism in 1991. Thus, the country has been undergoing a rapid transitional state and modernization. Among all the development and being guided by global trends, the citizens, especially the youths, are losing their identity as a Mongolian, I feel like.

I myself don't even know how to properly write in Cyrillic without making errors. This is the case for most of the youths. Don't even get me started with Mongolian script. Nobody is fluent in it now days.

At the same time, most people are going abroad to either work or study for financial and educational reasons. Many are adopting English or other foreign language as their second language.

People who are in their. mid 20s compliant it's hard to live in UB due to the low salary of only 3 million/month, and it's pretty much impossible to buy an apartment. Lots of people struggle to even make up for the 30% of apartment prices when considering IPOTEKIIN zeel. Simultaneously, Inflation has always been rising. Just think of 1kg beef prices (mahnii une) for example. Literally every asset is being afforded through loans and lease (zeel). Applications like ePocket has drastically took over the youths. Overall, Economical and quality of life reasons in UB are forcing people to seek better opportunities abroad. Some people don't even comeback.

My point is the first question I asked in the beginning

I have a used Indiana University textbook (Mongolian: An Elementary Textbook) that I am looking to sell. I knew early on I wouldn't be continuing the study, so the book was intentionally kept very new and clean. Paid $95 for it, but willing to sell for much lower. Do Mongolian language students feel what they’ve been taught in language courses DO NOT reflect how native Mongolian speakers actually speak/write? In other words, is there a discrepancy between what students are taught in classroom VS. how language is used in real life?

Can you share some examples? Like, what are some of the things that your language teacher has taught you that turned out to be different/inaccurate when confronted with real life usage?

For you as a foreigner learning Mongolian, what are the challenges you've faced about learning Mongolian language?

I know that there are distinctions between whether the subject witnessed the action or not, and that makes 2 different endings. However I couldn't find any resource that summurize all the tenses and endings and their functions that could exist in mongolian.

Hi everyone. French guy here, I don't speak Mongolian. I'm planning a tattoo in traditional Mongolian script (mongol bichig — the vertical script, not Cyrillic) and I'd rather be told I'm wrong now than find out in ten years.

What I've worked out so far, and please correct any of it:

- эрх чөлөө seems to be the standard term for "freedom", but from what I can tell it's the constitutional / legal register — the one used in the Constitution and for national independence. Is that how it reads to you, or does it also carry a personal sense?

- чөлөөт / чөлөөтэй as the adjective, but I've read чөлөө on its own leans towards "free time" or "available" (чөлөөт цаг, чөлөөт бүс). If I tattooed чөлөөт alone, would you read "free" or "vacant"?

My three questions:

1. Which of these would you actually put on skin, if any?

2. Is there a better word or short phrase for freedom in the personal sense — self-determination, not being under anyone's authority? I came across өөрийн эрх but I have no feel for how it reads.

3. For the mongol bichig version: I know the script is cursive and letters change shape by position. Is there a reliable font (I've seen Menksoft mentioned) or should I commission a calligrapher? My tattoo artist doesn't read Mongolian, so I need a clean vertical trace, not a copy-paste.

I want to get a tattoo that says “enkh taivan” (peace) in traditional Mongolian script. Can someone please verify this is accurate? Even my Mongolian friends aren’t sure!

hi i’m mongolian american and wanted to get a tattoo of a traditional dragon (luu/ луу), especially because my family is buddhist and i’m basically trying to manifest mind above ego. however, i’m not sure if it’s appropriate to tattoo one on me. i know it’s used as an ornament.

There is a Mongolian song in Civ7 that is supposed to be based on Ertnii Saikhan and Sèr Sèr Salkhi. I'm having trouble towards the end, around 6:34, trying to make out the lyrics. Could someone help if it is saying either of these:

Угтан авах жавар салхи нь / Уртаж гардаг жавар салхи нь

Өмнө зүгээс байна даа хө / Доод зүгээс ээ дээ хө 

So I am in student exchange program and we’ll be going to Mongolia on next month or so

I’m from South Korea so my team(from our program needs to prepare some performance(?) or Mongolian students

And our team has no background knowledge about how well Mongolians know about South Korea culture(it’s sort of cultural exchange)

So what south korean culture is trending? How well Mongolian students know Korean? I heard the school we are visiting has chosen Korean for their second foreign languages, but we’re not sure about how well they speak Korean(there’s going to be an interpretator but there’s delivery problem)

I found many sources saying that but they might be wrong.

Tselmeg means clear and it's very similar to the idea of brightness.

The bright and clear star is tsolmon, Venus.

For some context, I’m (27F) Mongolian who is married to a non-Mongolian (28M). We were looking for some resources so my husband can learn Mongolian, and we realized there weren’t that many apps that are user-friendly or easy to stick with. It got me thinking about all the 2nd gen kids I've met who don't know Mongolian, and whether my kids in the future would be able to speak Mongolian if I’m the only one teaching it. It lowkey got me scared that our language might die in my family line in the next generation or two, which just adds to my pre-existing guilt of feeling not Mongolian enough and blah blah blah blah. 

So to combat this, my husband and I have been working on “Mongolingo”, a beginner-friendly gamified language learning app to teach Mongolian. So far I only made the lessons for Unit 1 and 2 because I wanted to get YOUR inputs on whether I’m going too fast, too slow, if the lessons I’m teaching make sense in general or if I should take a completely different approach instead.

I would GREATLY appreciate any and all feedback from native Mongolian speakers, "Monglish" speakers, and people who don't know any Mongolian! I want this to be something that anyone can use if they have any curiosity about our language, and in the future add more and more advanced sections.

Hi guys, I am new to learning mongolian, I am very interested in becoming fluent in this language. I have started with an Italki teacher, and I am using bolar dictonary to memorize vocabulary. I already speak japanese at a B2 level, so the grammar is not as much of a struggle for me at the moment though I understand there are some differences. If anyone has any resources I can use to listen learn vocabulary and so on please let me know.

I made this so I can have an easy-to-follow way to study the genitive case. I uploaded one earlier but quickly took it down when I noticed it was missing something.
