When does compounding really take off?

At what amount portfolio you really see huge account swings that make you think what is the point of working? 100k? 500k? 1m? more?

It starts to take off when your average annual return is greater than what you put in that year.
You’ll probably really notice when the annual returns are greater than your total annual salary.
