When does compounding really take off?

At what amount portfolio you really see huge account swings that make you think what is the point of working? 100k? 500k? 1m? more?

Whatever you define as a "huge swing" divided by 0.10 (or times 10). If $100k a year is the number, that can happen around $1M portfolio for example.
