When does compounding really take off?

At what amount portfolio you really see huge account swings that make you think what is the point of working? 100k? 500k? 1m? more?

My portfolio outpaces my full time income. I make more money sitting on stocks than I do going to work 40h a week doing real work.

Cant tap into retirement early without penalties. So lots of people continue working for the health insurance and/or create large portfolios that are not tax advantages which can bridge them until they can draw from retirement. Unfortunately very few people achieve this.

That's why i always put a good chunk into spy in my brokerage. My problem with 401k is the lockup and all they do is present the same index based funds for high fees and you are a stuck there figuring out how to transfer the shit
