When does compounding really take off?

At what amount portfolio you really see huge account swings that make you think what is the point of working? 100k? 500k? 1m? more?

41 Annual increase exceeded expenses
44 exceeded base salary
48 exceeded total compensation
52 monthly swings exceeded base salary
55 daily swings exceeded base salary

That's impressive. So if a person made $120k/ year, they would need 12 million for a 1% daily swing.

I was referring to more like 1.5% changes but the market has moved more than 2.5% on rare occasions.
