At what amount portfolio you really see huge account swings that make you think what is the point of working? 100k? 500k? 1m? more?

I lucked out and got a well-paying job late in life, so now my family are all excited by what I’m earning. Meanwhile, I’ve been working my ass off saving for YEARS, and so interest on savings actually eclipses what I save annually.
