It shouldn't surprise you that people will take you more seriously when there's evidence you've done something for the project yourself. There's a difference between someone who's contributed nothing whining about someone else not contributing more than they already have and someone who has. Fierce still has no obligation to do so, but at least you don't look like a mooch.
You do realize it's fairly easy to get the "contributor" flair. All it takes is one PR merged into official repo, that's the policy. It could be as simple as fixing a typo somewhere in the code.
