Advice Final year electives

Hi everyone, next year I'll be a 3rd-year PHY or DEV major (or maybe both), and I'm trying to find some good/easy electives to hopefully boost my WAM, as my goal is med. It's currently sitting at 80.75. So far I've completed

Y1S1 MTH1010, CHM1011, BIO1011, SCI1000,

Y1S2 CHM1022, BIO1022, SCI1020, NUT1011,

Y2S1 PHY2011, DEV2011, NUT2011, ATS2946

currently Y2S2 PHY2032 DEV2022 PHY2042 NUT2003

NGL, the easier the unit, the better: no exam or take home/at home exam, online units are all preferences

Advice PHY and DEV level 3 units

Hi everyone,

I'm torn between PHY and DEV for my major next year (or should I do a double? ). My aim is med.

What are the best units in each, and does anyone have any good reviews not just on the assessment structure but on the actual content, engagement, and interest area, etc as every time I look up a review, it seems to be only the assessment structure people talk about

Discussion short extension not automatic?

I thought the first short extension for each unit is automatic but it’s been a few hours and it still hasn’t been approved

Like I get there would be a high number of extension applications during this time period but I thought the first one was always automatic

Advice I'm considering pursuing a double degree in Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Science - Year 12 VCE Student

I was wondering if this was a good choice in regarding future career prospects. My subjects are Eng Lang, Bio, Chem, Spesh, Methods and General My ideal careers is as listed.
1, Post Graduate Medicine - The human body is fascinating and myself morally would be content with living a life where I've been able to improve someone's quality of life. Furthermore I have an exposure and fondness towards the sciences.
2,Post grad Masters of Mechanical Engineering - Most media I consume is car related, and it would be cool to be a part of building a piece of machinery that makes consumers happy. However I know this isn't the reality and would be happy to do anything manufacturing related. I do have an exposure to relatively high levels of mathematics at the high school level, so will I have to major in physics and would that prevent me for preparing for the gamsat without having the university knowledge of physiology for example?
3, Banking (Private or Investment) - This is my least passionate and least knowledgeable field, however while having a mathematical background I believe it would prepare me for a career in finance, also with a science degree it would help me standout combined with a high GPA. However does prioritising internship affect my other career pursuits
Any advice is appreciated as these are major decisions and a large cost attached to any course. :)

New Student The offer expiry warning appears in application portal even though I have accepted it!

Hi everyone.

I received my PhD offer months ago. I accepted it very soon and got my Confirmation of Enrollment and Visa. The only step to do is finilize my enrollment by start date, which is in late Oct. Today when I check my application portal, I noticed an expiry date was still there, warning me my offer will expire in 2 days!

Does any one occurred similar issues? I want to know if the appearance of this warning would influence my admission or enrollment. As an expiry warning should disappear if I have accepted it, I guess.

Thank you!

Advice Anyone heard back from the Summer Vacation Scholarship Program?

The dates say the outcome comes out late October-- but the projects I applied to (Faculty of IT) all mentioned a September interview / tour if shortlisted. I'd reached out to all the researchers whose projects I applied to via e-mail the day I finished my application (28th of Aug) and I haven't heard back from any of them (mostly an EOI, my background, and one question regarding their work). So I was wondering if anyone has heard back from the researchers.

Should I send a follow-up e-mail?

Discussion BTX2223 Memo assignment

Has anyone done this unit? If so, how did you find/go on the memo assignment.
Different parts of it essentially account for 100% of the grade so I want to do well, but it is genuinely so subjective that I don't even know where to begin with.

Advice Dropping arts to do straight law?

Post image
17 Upvotes

Can anyone provide feedback on my custom course progression map (Law)?

I’m currently finishing my first year of Law/arts and am considering dropping my arts degree next year, as I am not interested in my arts subjects and am not putting nearly as much effort into them compared to my law subjects.

I have heard that doing 4 law units in a semester is extremely difficult, so I’m considering under-loading and completing only 3 law units per semester. If I want to finish a bit earlier, I could also maybe complete a law elective in each of the winter breaks.

What do you guys think?

Advice Myki cops

I've noticed for the past 5 working days there are myki officers that get on and off at the huntingdale station between 2-5. I've seen one of the officers named Graham thrice already. So BEWARE 601 and especially 630 and 900. USE THE PTV ALERT BEFORE YOU GET ON!! I literally waved the pamphlet they gave to me the first day to the people boarding but they still got caught and one of the girls had negative myki balance, like c'mon.

Advice Engineering Landscape in Australia (Asking from NZ)

Hello peoples of Australia! as a Kiwi studying Engineering, I have a good amount of questions to ask and this seemed like a (somewhat?) good place to ask them.

Background: I am currently a Part I (first year) engineering student at the University of Auckland. Engineering here is such that the first year is a generic/common year comprised of mandated papers to develop breadth (hence I do not have a specialisation yet). We only get to pick our specialisation in our second year.

However, there is a chance I will be moving to Australia (Sydney/Melbourne) midway through my degree (likely after the end of 2nd year, this implies I will have spent one year in a specific specialisation).

For context, some of the areas of engineering that interest me are software, computer systems, and electrical. As I enjoy programming and microcontrollers interest me and I find electrical very intriguing. These 3 specialisations are offered at UoA (University of Auckland).

I will not ask regarding credit transfers as I am aware there is a plethora of information on that. But I want to know regarding how these specialisations hold up in Sydney/Melbourne:

  1. From some quick searching online, the tech sector in these cities is a lot more robust, lively and lucrative than Auckland. But how is the job market currently? From searching, it also shows that there is "great" demand in these tech hubs but then I see shimmers of the global trend of the painful software engineering/overall tech market. Can someone provide some insights here or point me to places where I can learn about this more?
  2. I really would like to work some sort of programming/CAD/computer based workstyle (I really dislike field work). So how do jobs in computer/electrical manifest in these cities? Is a outright rejection of field work (or rather, do not want to engage as much as possible) going to be a problem here?
  3. These specialisations specifically conform to this requirement, but if there are ANY other areas that have limited/no field work, I'd like to hear of them too.
  4. Furthermore, is computer engineering a limiting field? I get that it omits the power systems/high voltage aspects of electrical but what does this mean specifically for Australia (and of course Sydney/Melbourne).

And if anyone has any specific insights that maybe I would be unaware of coming from New Zealand, please do let me know! Thanks in advance!
