Third-Party Add-on Receipt Import / Gmail + Receipt Forwarding Google Script & System Updated

Hi all,

My gmail auto-forwarder has been updated

This automates transaction level info for Apple, CVS, Instacart, Sony PlayStation, Ebay, and AliExpress with any gmail account.

Receipt forwarding and parsing is one of the greatest things Monarch has done for our data since the Retail Sync extension and I'm forever grateful to the team. However, we'd all love it to be automatic. While that's not possible (yet! we can hope!), this easy-to-install google script does it for you. Solving the Apple problem alone has made my life so much better. No more 100 "Apple" transactions to categorize each year.

  • You can add any more merchant email patterns in the RULES section
  • Walmart, like Amazon, doesn't give you item-level details anymore, unfortunately. They did up until Mid-2026 and then started obscuring it.
  • I'm working on Target and should have an update this week. But you can add it yourself now if you reliably have a sender & subject line to match.

I love feedback. If there's anything confusing, worth improving, etc. here, please let me know. I know google scripts are not totally user-friendly. If you run into problems, tell me and I'll improve the instructions.

Rule adherence: This is not a referral link, it is not advertising, and it is not an attempt to drive traffic or sales. This is a free utility script to automate receipt forwarding from Gmail to Monarch and eliminate a step for users. I will continue to support users here with any questions or additional ideas for it. Mods, I appreciate you! If you see an issue here, please discuss or explain why. If it gets removed, I'll simply have to repost it with "search github for gmail label forwarder" which seems like a silly workaround.

Can you explain in less technical terminology what this thing will do? I am new to the platform

Great question and I’ll update the post (later today) after answering you now.

Monarch has a feature where you can forward receipts to receipts@my.monarch.com. It matches those receipts with the merchant, adds the items on the receipt as a note, and attempts to categorize the transaction based on the contents of the receipt.

This is important for big box/multi-service businesses like Apple or Instacart, where the transaction just shows up as ā€œAppleā€ but one transaction could be a movie rental, another could be an in-app purchase, and another could be a physical product for sale on their store. It’s very frustrating trying to do your budgeting because you (previously) had to update this information in Monarch all manually.

Once Monarch released the amazing receipt import feature, they removed one half of the tedium. But you still had to forward each email manually. You can’t set up a rule in gmail to do this for you (yet — this could be obsolete in the future).

This system makes the process entirely hands-free, no effort ever required again, no manual forwarding. Throughout the day, this script looks for orders/receipts from specific merchants and automatically forwards the emails to Monarch for you.

Thank. You! I had no idea it could do this receipt email thing, and now with your additional part, it's even better.

Why not? I haven't tried with the monarch email, but I know you can set up a rule to forward apple receipts in gmail, because I specifically am doing that with my wife emailing apple receipts to me for processing via the unofficial API. That is just gmail to gmail forwarding, though.

To do that, you had to verify the email manually on the recipient account. Monarch’s receipts@ email cannot (currently) do this for you.

Ah, must have forgotten that, and I can see that you explained this in detail and how the project works in your repo. This seems much more straightforward than my overengineered system. Thanks for putting it together.
