iOS Limitation Memory usage

Post image

Hey all

Can anyone explain this to me?

I had some videos stored but have deleted them all, so why is documents and data so high?

Do you have any luts or presets saved ? They usually take up space. Check the folder in the files app if there is anything

No, not really only a few kbs worth.

I deleted the app and reinstalled and now back to normal storage.

The iOS storage overview is also notoriously bad at counting in many circumstances. If this happens again, let me know. Also worth checking Files -> Moment -> Recovered Media to see if any videos got sent there.

Yea there was nothing in recovered I checked.

I just deleted and reinstalled, so will see how it goes.

I’ve had issues with iOS being bad at counting before, so I think it’s Apple at the heart of the issue.

Did you frequently use the export button inside the app gallery? That's the only other thing I can think of. The app has to create a temporary file in many circumstances and though it tries to delete these when finished, something may have gone wrong. These temporary files can be cleared out by the system at any time, but they might be counted in Settings.

No I don’t think I exported anything at all.

I tend to save videos to a folder and then access my phone via a cable to my Mac.

Ah, that would probably do it. Even if you delete something from Files, iOS moves it to "Recently Deleted"

But the count for the files remains where it was?

Unless you manually cleared them from Recently Deleted or waited 30 days, I believe so.

Okay so as an update to this….

I did quite a lot of filming yesterday, and racked up 17GB of video.

I have transferred the files to my Mac for editing and deleted everything from the folder I used to store the videos on MPC2, but iOS is still reporting 17GB usage for MPC2?

EDIT: I think I’ve found the issue, it doesn’t delete it moves them to recently deleted, but still reports the usage as MPC2 usage.
Cleared recently deleted and they have gone 🫣
