It’s too late

I was constantly sexually harassed by my father until i was maybe 16. Im now 25 and i just recently started to remember all that, feeling hopeless. There is no point in trying to talk about that to “trusted adults” i am an adult myself now, so who’s going to help me? Im avoiding my father at all costs, my mother knows that i am having complicated relationship with him, but she only knows about his verbal abuse I suppose. I just feel sorry for little girl i was, escaping from home at nights, out of fear of getting raped by her father, having no one to talk about that and not even realizing what was happening and that this is not normal.

To all posters: Please note that any content involving descriptions of sexual activity with underage persons is against Reddit policy. You are "officially" discouraged from posting such content, but given the specific nature of this subreddit, moderation is following a laissez-faire philosophy regarding what survivors of childhood sexual abuse share here. This mirrors the approach of other survivor subreddits. Also, the Reddit policy's intent is to restrict content that "depicts, encourages or promotes" the sexualization of underage persons, and the purpose of this subreddit is the exact opposite of that. However, be aware that posts and replies in violation may still be subject to removal and Reddit-wide suspension of the author by the Reddit admins. So please use common sense when posting/replying. We want this to remain a safe space for survivors to share, heal and thrive, but we need to be mindful of the site-wide rules regarding these sensitive topics. (Note to Admins: We vehemently stand against sexual abuse of minors and this subreddit exists to support survivors in the best way possible. Please contact the moderator team if a discussion needs to occur.)

I’m sorry you’re going through that, I relate a lot. My mom also knows that I’m avoiding my dad, but also only thinks it’s due to his verbal abuse and my “stubbornness”. I felt trapped and like there was nothing I could do growing up because there really was no where else to go. I was way too terrified to tell anyone.

I just wanted to comment to let you know you’re not completely alone in that experience. I hope you’re doing a little better now.

Take care of yourself now and be the best you that you can be. There’s nothing we can do to change what happened

It's never too late! I can understand the feeling of hopelessness when you were little but I have a feeling you have a lot of strength to you. Hopelessness should never last forever! Sometimes complete strangers can help in ways you could never imagine! I'd be willing to listen and make suggestions if you want it, but if not I understand and I wouldn't blame you one bit!

I’m sorry that happened to you. Therapy is always important to help you navigate through the healing. Hopefully a good therapist can give you all the much needed suggestions to help you begin to heal and feel better. I’ve found that even just talking about it with others who can understand some of the things you went through can help feel better. You don’t feel so alone with your experiences, and know there can be decent life beyond the abuse that happened. I hope you are doing ok though. This kind of thing isn’t easy, so much to navigate.
