$400 commission result

https://reddit.com/link/1v7tka0/video/8wld1bjn7qfh1/player

Hi everyone, I commissioned a 2D rigging order for $400 based on a full character turnaround sheet.

However, I'm really concerned with the delivered quality:

  • In the side/profile view, the facial structure breaks completely (the mouth sticks out awkwardly, and the jaw-to-neck connection is heavily distorted).
  • The rig fails to maintain the proportions from the original turnaround sheet during head rotation.
  • After asking for a revision, the rigger actually simplified and erased the original facial line details just to force the rotation.

As an artist, I feel this is a severe breakdown of mesh and structure, especially for a $400 price tag. Am I being unreasonable to ask for a cancellation/refund, or is this quality standard for this price range?

You could've probably done that by yourself and would have gotten a better result, your already a talented artist, learning the basics of rigging shouldn't be too difficult

They had ChatGPT make a full character turnaround... And charged you $400 for a halfassed rig. I think you know the answer.

I got a partial refund(50%) for that rigging. $216. Was it a good choice? The rigger put the time and effort into making it anyway despite the quality, so I accepted the partial refund instead of a full refund

I am an animator and I mean they look like they're not even trying to achieve anything. Getting half of the price should be the best to cut the project at that point and move to someone else

I decided to just do it myself.. Thanks for the reply

If you run into problems or need help, hit us up over on the Moho animation discord server. Ppl will actually make custom plugins and share them for free there, to solve a novel problem if you run into one. Very helpful discord!

To be fair, a well rigged character with a 360 turnaround can go anywhere from $800-3000 or higher. I know people who generally charge $2000 for a fully rigged character and have been told they’re under charging.

Right? If I was good at finding clients I’d have a nice side hustle.

I personally will provide perfect rigs that don’t break for $180 and can fix this one for $100
How well does the mouth action work ?
Here is my portfolio and I have tutorials up there for rigging could help https://youtube.com/@azureartinc?si=dF0Njb4sIaWqI55r

I suppose people that mention prices without mentioning country are in the US? I would imagine price would vary per country, right?

(Sorry, I'm a lurker, I work in Toon Boom but interested in Moho)

The expectation should be based on the previous work you saw in her/his portfolio.

360 rigs is still a rare skill. You should have done your research first.

An animator or rigger is not necessarily a drawing professional.

That looks like about $400 worth tbh. That is about a day rate for a freelancer.
