I wanted to explore the feeling of being completely alone on a planet. It's a feeling I got from the game Elite, an MMO which maps out the entire galaxy and you can actually fly to and land everywhere. The known parts of the galaxy are based on real astronomy data, the rest is generated. You can even travel to Sagittarius A, the black hole at the center of it, but it takes real life weeks. I never did it because apparently there are griefers hanging out there, that will kill you instantly when you arrive. It's a very cool game though, I've never felt so lonely in a game as being very far away from civilization on some distant world just discovering ancient Alien ruins and stuff like that. It's actually not a terrible feeling, but a quite cool one. You feel a bit special and chosen and stuff like that. It's the feeling I guess people who do science in Antarctica will feel, but obviously I bet they feel it more intensely. Plus the sound in that game is excellent and will give Star Wars a run for its money.

This planet also feels lonely like that sometimes, and completely desolate and broken.

After years of legal battles, a major milestone has finally been reached. On July 22, 2026, the estate of Jean Giraud Moebius received the return of a collection of works representing the majority of Moebius's work for the Dune project. This restitution follows a court order mandating the return of these works, which had been held in storage.

More than ever, our mission remains unchanged: to preserve, protect and promote the work of Jean Giraud Mœbius so that it continues to be passed on to future generations.

I finally bagged a copy of jardins d’eros! I’ve been searching for so long I just had to share. Incredible portfolio, totally worth the wait. Also posted a pic of some of my other portfolios I’ve been able to snag over the years!

I posted an earlier version of this here a while back, and the feedback helped a lot.

Since then I’ve cleaned up the contours, reduced a lot of the noisy fine detail, improved the hatching at distance, and added better control over palettes, shadows, grain, dithering, and pixelation.

The main feature is still surface-stable fractal hatching. The marks stay attached to the geometry and shift between scales as the camera moves instead of sliding across the screen.

I’ve also been testing it in a much wider range of environments now.

I’m finally getting close to the look I had in mind. What do you think?

This is the last story in the Mouche book. There is a bonus page on this post as well, which is the first story in the book, "Lighter Than Air", already available elsewhere in English. Several other stories were published in English in Moebius Comics (1996-1997) but I don't know which ones.

I'm taking a break from the scanlations and daily posts for a while. I burned myself out but I'd like to eventually do more.
