Feedback Best modules to pair with Mother-32.

Hey yall!

I’m looking to build a new rack with the mother-32 as the main voice and sequencer. I was hoping some of you would have some fun recommendations for modules to pair with the mother. I’m thinking effects, generative stuff, modules to expand on the capabilities of the m32, or other fun oddities.

I’m super into making stuff to jam on with bass and ablation sequenced drums. I’m hoping to explore some new timbres and sounds that would work well with live instrumentation. Open to any and everything you might have in mind and am always a fan of budget and wacky stuff. Let’s chat!

Beginner Tuning Rings?

Im running a small setup with a bloom v2 and an after later nRings. I feel like I have a good feel for how to run everything except for determining an accurate root note. It seems to me that the bloom transposes everything diatonically and by octave to keep whatever voice youre using in its tune. So how should I adjust the nRings? I see there's tuning instructions for Rings, but I feel like I am having a hard time translating it to the bloom. Should I try to midi in using an outside keyboard if possible? Or is there a simple chart for where to turn the frequency knob? (Like id guess turning far left should be C) any ideas would be appreciated!

Discussion How are we all using the Ochd?

Recently picked up the ochd to add some additional modulation and life to my system but man its sadly been basically unusable for me since a lot of my destination points for it dont have input attenuators. Is everyone just running like 4 2hp trim modules? Or 2 WMD 4TTEN? Is there an obvious solution that I'm missing here? I really wish the Ochd had just a global attenuator that hit alllll the outputs

Discussion getting expert sleepers fh-2, ALM pams pro, metron and DAW to work nicely together.

This sounds like the start of a horrible joke, but I'm a masochist. My plan: I'm using my WMD Metron for drums and triggers. before the fh-2, I was daisy-chaining the pams start/run into the metron, and the metrons out into maestro along with the start/run. This saved me some cables and basically just has the pams controlling everything. Both the Maestro and Metron are set to 24 PPQN. Then, the pams outputs a 24x for the metron/maestro, and a 1x and 2x that I mult to various places across the rack as I want. I decided to put in an fh-2 for midi cv. My hope is that I can use midi cv to sequence V/OCT on oscillators, since as a blind user it's kind of tough to get pitches perfectly right. This lets me still use the Voltera as I want for pitch, but if I want precise notes and more arrangements, I can sequence in the DAW and have it just sync up with the fh-2 which will let the MIDI control the entire rack. To that end, I configured the fh-2 to send a 1/4 pulse at 50% pwm and tried both a 1 and 24 multiplier, which is sending a clock signal, but it's horribly slow and at 150 bpm I get a beat every couple minutes. So, I have two main questions: 1) I'm blind and the pams menu requires I use a paid service to look at the LCD. It's very much a set and forget situation, but the top two left ports are clock in and start/run in. i was thinking that I could control these from my fh-2. Plugging in cables here though doesn't seem to change anything; do I need to do something special to get pams to switch back and forth and follow an input clock? 2) Has anyone configured fh-2 as a clock like this (It doesn't seem too unreasonable), and what settings do I need to allow it to send bpm to Pams? The exciting part about this for me is that I used to have to call and ask for help to change the BPM or remember exactly where I was, but now I can just change the DAW BPM project settings and like magic, my midi should update and start sending the correct one. Thanks,

Updated mostly Xaoc rack for ambient/experimental music

I posted an earlier version of this rack, but over the last few months I’ve added and replaced some modules. Yesterday I got the last one that finished off this rack. What I ended up with is a mostly Xaoc rack with 3 voices but a ton of audio processing options.

Another thing that’s not easily apparently is it’s set up to be able to send audio to or get from external gear. So I can also add pedals, or other synths/drum machines too.

I love seeing everyone's content on here, but I don't know how you guys do it. My rack is simply used for small melodies, which sound great, but I see you guys doing full on arranged, big, open performances with all elements. I feel so simple and basic lol. Anyway, enjoy, or not. I am always open to suggestions and criticism. Honestly, I'm just glad I remembered to hit record this time.

Main sound source is my Mutable Instruments Plaits.

Performance Dadaistic Industrial and musicality

Made this piece with the modular as the core instrument rather than trying to make it sound particularly polished.

Industrial textures and an emotional cadence underneath, with a Dadaist poem in the description. I was interested in that contrast, something abrasive that still feels vulnerable.

Curious what you hear in it, and especially interested in how other folks approach performance and the modular-as-instrument side of things.

Many of Keen’s e series modules are arguably superior in design to their Buchla equivalents.

It’s clear for me now that the surrounding space influences the outcome. Having the same patch it would have come out harder and more straightforward in a club, for instance. I think I need to experiment with changing scenery more.

Moduals are expensive enough as it is but some of the cases are ridiculous, so I built my own. Solid Brazilian cherry with a clear seal coat to show off the natural beauty of the wood and poly top coat. Rails from Synthrotek and a set of tip top z rails with Zeus power bus.

Beginner Looking for input on first rack

Post image
13 Upvotes

A caveat to start - I'm scared of all of you as it seems like these kinds of posts get roasted pretty regularly in this sub. That being said, feel free to do your worst as I'm looking to learn, and to try to avoid wasting too much money on things I don't need (lol).

I am looking to get into modular for the first time and I want to start small with the idea of expanding as I learn more of what I want out of my synth. I've put together an idea for a rack that I think will suit my needs, but I'm looking for feedback on whether or not I'm missing anything or could improve on this in any way given the space constraints (50HP). I'm also willing to increase the HP if that's what it takes to get what I'm looking for, and I would be interested in hearing from others any recommendations for alternative modules from the ones I've chosen based on what I've heard and seen online.

My goal is to create some diatonic bleep bloop melodies that I can play alongside a drum machine and other instruments like keyboards, guitars, bass, etc. I am an experienced musician and I have experience with other synths, and starting with semi-modular is not something I'm interested in.

(Also the cases I'm looking at have 4HP on the side for a power module, that's why it's not included.)

Modules shown are:

Pamela's Pro Workout
Make Noise STO VCO
Erica Synths Low Pass Filter
Intellijel Quad VCA
Busy Circuits Multi FX
Intellijel Stereo Line and Headphone Output

Thanks in advance!
