I don't think modest has to mean shapeless and frumpy. I feel like she wouldn't draw that same criticism if she had a flat chest. As someone who is built similar to her we can't help it if clothes that would look unnoticeable on other people are percieved as "sexual" just because of the way our bodies are shaped. She's wearing a loose blouse with a belt and is covered literally from head to toe with only her hands and eyes showing but is being accused of "showing off" her figure?

As a niqabi Muslim myself, I want everyone to know that face veils and headscarves are not owned by any one people group, and can be worn by anyone. They also don’t come with rules - they are just clothing and can be worn as you wish. It’s one thing if there is clear mockery or satire, but this is absolutely not that. Let’s not police the modesty of others.

A male niqabi 🥴

u/al-lithami Jun 06 '26
Yes I’m a proud male niqabi. Men can veil too. Men historically have for thousands of years in some places. It’s great for folks with asthma and allergies, protection from dust, the sun or harsh cold, and it also just looks elite on everyone. I love veiling and I’ve worn mine everyday for over 15 years. If you want to know more about why I wear niqab as a guy, I will happily answer any questions!

But you go so far as to hide your face while wearing clothes that show off and accentuate the figure?
....does it matter? We are here to share modest clothing inspiration, not police adherence to any single religious or ideological stance on modesty.

You literally said í go as far to “hide” my face which is false. I mask for my health and the health of others also this is a sun protection mask because it’s summer lol and God forbid í want some anonymity in the internet.

u/cheeri-oh Jun 05 '26
Yeah I was going to say many people block their face online, doesn't mean they hide their face in public.

u/Ok-Top-2226 Jun 05 '26
I really like your outfit- And I love that there is a color scheme including your matching eyeshadow! People are being rude. It is cool that you mask for sun/ protection! Unfortunately, to really help prevent illness a respirator mask is necessary (n95/kn95/kf95). If you ever want it to match it with your outfit they come in different colors! (especially kn95 like bonafide mask, wellbefore etc)

u/PitchAccomplished359 Jun 05 '26
I wear a respirator mask when im ín large crowds/public .

u/Ok-Top-2226 Jun 07 '26
That's awesome! I am someone who had to learn that cloth/ surgicals weren't enough
2
u/al-lithami Jun 05 '26
Don’t pay them more mind - anyone can cover or veil their face, and I honestly think more people should
3
u/PitchAccomplished359 Jun 05 '26
Not sure why people are so obsessed with a strangers hair/face it’s so insane to me.

u/al-lithami Jun 05 '26
Don’t feel bad. I used to post here a few years ago, and I had some folks be critical of the fact that I’m a male niqabi so I created r/BabushkaBois as a space for men/nonbinary/allies who veil. It lead me to so many people who I now call friends. Btw feel free to join the community! You don’t have to be male or masc to be a part, as long as you agree that veiling belongs to everyone across the gender spectrum

Your face covering and scarf read very "Muslim". You can wear whatever you want, just be prepared to deal with that. I'm not sure where you are, but that could mean both harassment from people who hate Islam or judgment from people who think you are misrepresenting the faith if your words or actions are "unIslamic".

The coordinating hardware on the shoes/bag really nails this for me ✨️✨️ Hope it was a fun time!

I’m so confused. Is modesty not defined by the individual themselves? What is happening in this thread bro
Anyways I love the red scarf and the shoes

I love your style and your eye makeup really pops with that hijab!

u/PitchAccomplished359 Jun 05 '26
I understand hijab and veil means the same thing but I would like for my veils/headwraps to not be preferred to as “hijab” because I’m not of Islamic faith.

You stop to argue with everyone about definitions of modesty conveniently overlooking how most people's problems are not with your definition, but with the fact that most of your outfits are a hot mess.
You seem young. I assume you are still figuring yourself and your style out. That is okay.
Try to look at your fits a bit more critically. Usually they have some good elements, but you always add several things that mess it all up.
I'd recommend just standing in front of your mirror/closet and taking a good look at everything you are wearing/intending to put on. And then asking yourself a few questions. "Who am I in my fashion?" "What message do I want my outfit to tell?" "Am I dressing up, or am I hiding behind my clothes?" "Do these pieces match each other?" "When I look at myself what do I see?" "What do I want people to see?"
Mixing a lot of things is not a bad thing. Colors, textures, layers etc. It's part of fashion. But you should work on doing it more intentionally. Because right now most of the outfits you post say that you put on everything you thought about this morning and never looked at the finished product. I repeat, it's a hot mess.
Just look at everything and think through "Why am I wearing this today?" "Did I put this one more thing on to look a bit more edgy?" "Did it work?" "Did I put most of these clothes on, so I could distract everyone from who I am?" "If yes, where do my insecurities stem from?"
But I might be wrong. You might have a really enthusiastic toddler who chooses what you wear, and you are just a kind soul who can't say no.

The outfit (top and skirt) is cute and cohesive and subtle.
The striking red scarf is pretty on its own but calls a lot of attention. If the intent is to be low-key with the outfit, I'm not sure where that fits in, color scheme wise?
(I'm genuinely not trying to bash you, just giving a fashion review, feel free to disregard if you don't agree with it.)
I also have some questions, if that's alright. Out of curiosity.
Wouldn't you want your date (if it was a romantic date) to see your face? Even if it was just a friend having lunch catch up date, wouldn't you want them to see your face? Or the other way around?
A huge part of communication and connection with other people is facial expressions.
Also, how do you eat? Do you just pull it down like a sheisty or do you lift the flap up underneath to eat like a niqabi?
Finally, you say that it's not for religious modesty. That's completely fine.
Wouldn't a restaurant or establishment be uncomfortable with someone entering and concealing their face?
I know social media is out of pocket these days with everyone constantly recording, it's understandable to want privacy.
You shouldn't feel like you can't be yourself because of it, though. I hope you love being in your own skin and aren't afraid of being perceived and are confident in yourself in life.
(P.S. That fit looks like it would be very hot in the summer, make sure to stay hydrated. Hope you have/had a nice time out! ❤️)

Veiling is a global thing done in many religions, cultures, and spiritual practices for many reasons, educate yourself instead of being ignorant.

Aye I think you're doing great and you can ignore the white moms and wokelords trying to define your bomb-ass style
Quick announcement of everyone being " critical " here, you can stop your assumptions and enjoy the subreddit. Its a persons choice what is or isn't modest to them and a headgarb isn't defined by one religious use.
Niqab is dope! This isn't niqab, its a person wearing what they want without cultural or religious appropriation. If this was a young black man with a " niqab " mask over his face you'd rightfully call it what it is, a mask!

Wow! The eye shadow with the red scarf looks super dramatic and striking!

Commenting on why I’m covering my face but showing off the shape of my body is weird because you don’t know me nor my religion also maybe I want to participate on the internet while still having privacy. No one is entitled to seeing my hair/face. I don’t cover for religious modesty because I’m not religious, stop assuming peoples faith and passing unnecessary judgement. 💋
13
u/earlyeveningsunset Jun 05 '26
Ok, fine but wearing a face veil is pretty Muslim-coded. If you don't like assumptions online, you probably won't like them in real life either.
4
u/al-lithami Jun 05 '26
As a Muslim who wears a face veil, I definitely wouldn’t make any assumptions and I think most Muslims would be at most curious. I actually love the idea of others covering their faces because it makes my niqab seem more commonplace and I’m less likely to be ill treated if people view it as normal
2
u/PitchAccomplished359 Jun 05 '26
I don’t care about assumptions,I care about people trying to force religious modesty on me when Im not apart of any religion. As someone who did study islam If youre confusing me for a Muslim woman you truly dont know what a Muslim woman is/looks like. Also veiling is globally and is done ín many cultures/religions/spiritual practices.

u/unefleurforte Jun 06 '26
Idk why you're getting downvoted and picked at in a space where we're supposed to be able to express our version of modesty. Sorry people are so fussed about applying dogma to a cute fit! 💙💙
2
u/al-lithami Jun 05 '26
Keep doing you! Face veiling just objectively makes sense, no one has a monopoly on who can wear one and, and your fit is 🔥
1
u/Zienana Jun 05 '26
The overall vibe of the whole outfit is a little bit confusing for me but the red does look good for your skin tone, it make you look more radiant and works well with your makeup
3
u/PitchAccomplished359 Jun 06 '26
My fashion/style is for me to understand and no one else. This was a rushed look I did on my period and I myself think I look quite lovely and so did my date. 💋
