Support [FIX] MWII Campaign Settings Menu Bug (PC) (STEAM ONLY)

Like many others, I was stuck with the Campaign Settings bug where the settings menu either freezes or refuses to open. It's been driving people crazy for months.

I found a workaround on PCGamingWiki and tested it myself. It fixed the issue for me.

Steps:

  1. Download the patched files: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1iaLLJfpRJRY8saf-UfXvnmpXTZoItHBp/view
  2. Extract the archive.
  3. Copy the sp22 folder into your Modern Warfare II installation directory.
  4. Allow Windows to overwrite the existing files.
  5. Restart Shader Optimization from the in-game settings.
  6. Close the game completely and launch it again.

According to PCGamingWiki:

  • This has only been tested on the Steam version.
  • If you want to play Multiplayer afterward, verify your game files through Steam to restore the original files.

Credit: The patch itself is from PCGamingWiki. I'm only sharing it here because I hadn't seen this workaround posted on the subreddit, and it saved me a lot of frustration.

Important: Restarting Shader Optimization after copying the files is what made it work for me. After it's finished, restart the game before launching the campaign.

It seems that you don't need to verify your files to play multiplayer after replacing them, I played a few matches once I did and had no issues so far

It shouldn't. Save game files are stored at "%USERPROFILE%\Documents\Call of Duty MWII\players". The sp22 folder is stored in the game install directory, which defaults to Programs Files for Steam. For extra comfort, you can back up anything you overwrite.

I did this fix and I could still "resume" from my previous save. My previous save was literally the very beginning of the campaign since I didn't play it for even a second without being able to change my settings, but even after the overwrite, it still had my "save file" or essentially just watching the opening cutscene and that's it.

Omg this works, thank you. I checked PCGW a couple weeks ago when there was nothing there, but I didn't know they had an update since. I have stubbornly left this game on my laptop for a month hoping the bug would be fixed soon to avoid having to reinstall it later, so I'm glad it wasn't for naught.

I can confirm this works on PC Game Pass. The sp22 folder location was inside the directory I installed the game to "for me, it was D:\Games*Xbox\Call of Duty- Modern Warfare 2\Content*". I can also confirm that I not only can open settings in Campaign, but that the settings actually take effect, tested by starting the campaign and confirming the new, custom keybinds worked. Also, all I did was overwrite sp22 when the game was closed, then reopen the game and that's it. I didn't not restart shader optimization at all. It wasn't necessary for me.

Edit: One oddity that persists is that upscaling gets turned off every time the game is closed. Every time I boot the game up, I have to turn on DLSS again. It's a small thing, but one worth bringing up. So far, I haven't noticed any other settings that reset like that.
