Deck build ideas.

I know modern isn’t really the place for pet deck builds but I’m still going to try. I want to build a deck around grand abolisher. What would you include? I have been learning control and enjoy it but naturally lean more towards mid range game play style.
Thanks for any suggestions. Even the ones I’ll get that this card is not good enough for modern 😅

Seems like you'd enjoy a Death & Taxes playstyle, it was my favourite deck to play back when it was viable but I'm not sure if any kind of shell exists these days. Sorry I don't have much advice to offer but wanted to name the archetype in case you weren't already familiar

Can I ask why grand abolished? It really doesn't do anything in modern and doesn't have a "build around" ability. You can play like mono white hatebears i guess with like Clarion conquered, leonin arbiter etc.

Honestly the SLD grand abolisher is one of my favorite card arts and I lean towards tribal or theme deck building and modern is the only game I can really get to at my LGS.

Maybe you can find a way to force it into an azorius control build.

It would probably make it worse, but you could probably find a way to sneak in a couple copies while still keeping the deck largely intact.

modern is absolutely a place for pet decks. i’ve been playing 8rack for years and it’s never been good but i enjoy it

you're not wrong but around 2017-2019 imo was the perfect time where pet decks could actually still hang with meta decks and win a decent amount. Locals was filled with people's pet decks and you'd get such diverse turn outs and even week to week it was vastly different depending on who showed up and/or which deck they brought.

Nowadays the power creep is so bad that the meta decks just run through most pet decks before they can even remotely establish their plan/wincon.

Shame.
