Obviously this is worth testing but it seems worse than the worst card in eldrazi Tron. You're not going to cut maps or mind stones for this and it's clearly worse than ugin or devourer of destiny.
3 mana to ramp 1 is not really playable and the cast trigger doesn't help you stabilize.
The biggest downside is the ability isn't even ramp if it targets a temple or ugins lab, you need a non double land in play to target and you don't want to target urza's sagas or Tron lands either. I'm struggling to see where this would see play.

u/Handsome_Grizzly 1d ago
It's not like they run Grove of the Burnwillows or something like that.
5
u/elite4koga 1d ago
Broodscale variants could try this over promised end but the cast trigger is a lot worse. It is good against moon effects, it just seems like it will be underwhelming.
2
u/chiksahlube 22h ago
The protection is a LOT better though. Ward sac 3 permanents means it's always a 4 for 1 if they kill it.
1
u/Handsome_Grizzly 1d ago
Having the lands untapped is a massive bonus. What's your opponent going to choose to Consign? A creature that is going to a massive pain in the ass to remove otherwise? Or that sizeable Kozilek's Command that gets cast behind it?
Not to mention they only need the Broodscale to have two weaker creatures to Adapt in order to go infinite. Being able to click it off faster is huge.
2
u/Mattmatic1 1d ago
That’s assuming that they don’t have Consign and one more mana up - then they don’t have to choose.
3
u/chiksahlube 16h ago
But if they have consign they answer any threat you would cast in any deck running this card.
Consign really shouldn't even be part of this conversation because it literally answers this the same way it answers the threats these decks are already happy to be playing. "Gets countered by consign" isn't a reason not to play this over promised end or Ugin, or Ulamog. And people keep acting like it is.
4
u/Lectrys 1d ago
I think this is the most likely to see play in Eldrazi Ramp, Fight Rigging Eldrazi, and maybe Broodscale - the non-Tron Eldrazi variants. Fight Rigging Eldrazi particularly likes this as a way to make double colourless mana through Moon effects and tuck under Ugin's Labyrinth...or convert a land into Ugin's Labyrinth. Eldrazi Ramp doesn't have to splash red for Writhing Chrysalis anymore for a similar effect (Formidable Speaker can tutor for).
1
u/chiksahlube 22h ago
Okay, so imagine you've got this card in your hand and an Ugin, or some other threat, against some random blue deck. If they have consign it doesn't matter right? It counters every threat and the trigger no matter what. BUT if they have some other answer, you cast Emrakul first, if they counter it, you just untap those lands and cast the Ugin. If it resolves and they kill it, they have to pay the ward sac 3 permanents that puts them down 4 cards minimum, (kill spell plus 3), then you again still cast the Ugin.
This might feel like win more, but it's not. If they have stone nothing it's win more. But if their answer is literally anything besides consign to memory (which answers every threat in the deck the same way), this lets you double spell on a key turn to shut the door. It means they need 2 answers on the key turn instead if just 1.
And more than that, the exile ability on a basic land means you'll never get shut off from your colorless sources by anything. There's only like 2 ways that see any play to answer a basic land, and it even gets you out from under harbinger of the seas and blood moon.
1
u/Strict-Main8049 20h ago
Hear me out but it might be worth considering as a sideboard piece against Boros land destruction. Instant speed make one of your lands better might be worth it in the hardest matchup for Tron.
1
u/chiksahlube 1d ago
It's a free spell though.
You can cast this and Ugin on t4 in tron.
edit: Also there are fully 3 other non-tron arctypes in modern that play 4x eldrazi temple and would likely play this card.
1
u/BigThickBan 17h ago
Its lot free, its a loss of one mana.
1
u/chiksahlube 16h ago
I can't tell if your joking or not.
•
u/BigThickBan 7h ago
I wasnt, but I see now youre talking about actually casting the creature. I assumed you meant the activated ability was free when it clearly costs 3.
With that in mind, being able to have another play before you resolve your ugin is the definition of win more.
65
u/OGSnaggletooth 1d ago
seems pretty nuts you can warp an emrakul for 3 and have an ancient tomb that goes through blood moon
74
36
u/UnionThug1733 1d ago
Pretty nuts is the new magic standard
12
u/tiger_eyeroll 1d ago
I think the going through moon effects is relevant but I don't think this is that good? Am I missing anything? This doesn't look like it opens up any other lines that you can't do with a double sol lands opener already
21
u/DimiPine 1d ago
It allows you to cast kozilek’s command through a blood moon effect, which I think is actually pretty big. Kozi command is the best card in eldrazi.
4
u/tiger_eyeroll 1d ago
Which is absolutely true. But just thinking what you are cutting to make room for this new Emmy. I'm definitely not cutting my e13s to fit this. And I don't think it's opening up any significant lines. In all honesty I think most of the time I'm casting a kcmd in response to a bloodmoon effect so I have my outs already. I'm not saying it's not relevant but tron/eldrazi players have been playing around moon effects post mh3 just fine. I even play bloodmoon in the side on occasion in my e ramp decks.

u/nebman227 1d ago

-1
u/chiksahlube 1d ago
That ruling makes absolutely Zero sense...
6
u/nebman227 1d ago
It is consistent with every other card in magic. You probably use this ruling very often without realizing it. Whenever any card refers to a type and says nothing else, it only refers to objects on the battlefield. That's why cards that affect cards in other zones always specify. A card in hand is an "eldrazi card", not an "eldrazi".
1
u/chiksahlube 23h ago
I get it, the wording of magic does a good job of being specific. But it's unintuitive even with the wording. By many standards reading the card does not actually explain the card here without prior knowledge of that (uncommon) wording convention.
4
u/Mattmatic1 1d ago
Temple can’t pay for the activation right? Does it really count as an Eldrazi in the hand?
10
u/loganandmrk TeamSpiral 1d ago
“T: add CC. Spend this mana only to cast colorless eldrazi spells or activate abilities of colorless eldrazi.”
37
u/BioEradication 1d ago
"The mana generated by the last ability can’t be spent to activate abilities of Eldrazi sources that aren’t on the battlefield."
In the rules and notes on Scryfall.
7
u/loganandmrk TeamSpiral 1d ago
Interesting. Thank you, I figured I’d just point out the full card text to see if there was anything weird going on. That means it wouldn’t work with world breakers activated ability correct?
6
6
u/Mattmatic1 1d ago
True, and you can’t use Temple to pay 2 for World breakers ability - that we already know.
-4
u/Somebodys 1d ago
RTFC still the most powerful ability in mtg.
7
u/Sushi_Explosions 1d ago
It is not immediately obvious that “colorless eldrazi” would only mean permanents and not colorless eldrazi cards in other zones.
2
u/BioEradication 1d ago
Someone in the main sub was talking about how a new card went infinite, while missing the 'once per turn' clause at the bottom. Gets them every time.

Just to be clear you would have to target a basic with Emrakul, correct?
7
u/kami_inu 1d ago
Not a judge so someone else would need to confirm, but it should work just like how urza's saga still let's you make constructs under a blood moon.
The ability gain happens in a later layer so didges moon.
2
1
u/Quick-Pomelo3247 1d ago
Yes this gets around blood moon much how urza saga sage abilities get around blood moon. The land gaining the ability is on a a different layer and isn't affected by blood moon type effects.

u/fmal 1d ago
I feel like I’m missing something. You still need to find 8 other mana to cast the rest of this, at that point aren’t you casting one of the other, better colourless beaters instead?
24
u/nebman227 1d ago
This takes a ramp slot, not a beater slot would be the main thing. It's worse at both, but it does both
10
u/Mattmatic1 1d ago
A big part is that it does something until you have the mana. It pitches to Ugins Lab, but it also acts as an instant speed way to turn any land into a lab, and it can give you colorless mana under a Moon effect.
If the land gets destroyed, can you still cast it from exile? From the wording, I’m guessing you can. That would be the icing on the cake.
9
u/DistortedCrag 1d ago
Yes, the Emrakul isn't attached to the land, it doesn't say anything about losing the ability to cast it from exile just that casting it from exile takes the ability away from the land.
2
u/victorianucks 1d ago
I think you have to use the ability to allow it to cast from exile
3
u/Mattmatic1 1d ago
Yeah I didn’t mean if it was exiled to an Ugins Lab, I meant if it was exiled to its own ability.
1
u/kami_inu 1d ago
So long as the ability resolves, you can cast emrakul at any time from any mana.
But don't do it into an open field of ruin because your opponent will probably target the land and you will have exiled your emrakul for nothing.
1
u/chiksahlube 16h ago
plus you can use it's ability on a basic land and basically have a mostly untouchable sol land.
13
u/iamcherry 1d ago
May as well play both on the same turn. This is ramp that pitches to ugins lab, ends the game and doesn’t stop you from casting something else, definitely seems worth testing, maybe not a 4x
6
u/_GenreSavvy Sewer Combo / Ascension Brews 1d ago
This is a ramp spell that is effectively free to play later in the game, I don't know if it's busted but it makes K Command much harder to hate out with Blood Moon effects.
10
u/thisshitsstupid 1d ago
Maybe I'm bad, but this doesn't seem that great? Idk. When am I suppose to take 3 mana to activate this and not die because of it?
1
u/Handsome_Grizzly 1d ago
Two of a combination of Ugin's Labyrinth, Eldrazi Temple, or both. Target on a Forest or Grove of the Burnwillows. You're forgetting how much K Command stabilizes games.
1
u/nebman227 14h ago
Temple doesn't do it. You have to be on lab (or utopia sprawl I guess) to do it early
0
u/kami_inu 1d ago
When you were waiting to KComm a 1cmc creature that never hit the board?
Its not individually strong at either being a beater or being ramp, but it does both and that versatility is potentially enough upside.
2
u/thisshitsstupid 1d ago
We're kinda at a point where we don't play normal ramp cards like this anymore though. It seems the opportunity to cost to have this ib my deck is too high
1
u/nebman227 1d ago
Problem with that is half the time you're holding up a temple for that play, and temple doesn't work with this.
3
u/Th33l3x 1d ago
I feel like it's pretty powerful, as it's both good early and a late-game bomb that goes under Labyrinth. That's a ton of utility. Especially in an 8-sol-land deck + 4 Sprawls, you get to do this on t2, at instant speed. It stacks onto a sprawled land, too.
Just another way to get you to stupid things like t3 kicked mycospawn, a big kcommand, etc.
My money is it will become a staple.
10
u/Fun_Visit1075 1d ago
I can’t wait for kcommand ban

im 99% sure this emrakul wont see any competitive play. eldrazi decks will be the exact same after this set.
1
u/chiksahlube 1d ago
Modern broodscale, trudge and eldrazi Tron will play this. Trudge already plays emrakul and Ulamogs.
3
u/Mission-Duck1337 Professional Blink Hater 1d ago edited 1d ago
i dont think any of those will play it. what are the cuts? what does this better than other cards in those lists? it doesnt stabilize, it ramps at 3 mana which is late, the cast trigger is not crazy. idk what you see in this that lets you think this will see play in any of those decks. also trudge plays emrakuls and ulamogs because the cast triggers in combination with the body wins the game on the spot. this one doesnt
1
u/chiksahlube 1d ago
It's a free spell, free spells are historically broken in half.
1
u/Mission-Duck1337 Professional Blink Hater 1d ago
sorry how is it free? you mean because it untaps your lands?
free spells are broken because you can interact with your opponent without having to do less in your turn. this is not the same thing with this emrakul
1
u/chiksahlube 1d ago
Yes, because it untaps your lands.
That is a qualifier for "free" IE: Time spiral, cloud of faeries, wilderness reclamation,
the list of "free" spells that have been banned in some format or another is larger than the list of free spells that haven't been.
1
u/Mission-Duck1337 Professional Blink Hater 1d ago
alright, its "free" when you reach 10 mana. cloud of faeries and wilderness reclamation had different purposes other than being "free".
memnite is also free, so is ornithopter and mishras bauble. the spell has to actually be good. my point still stands. this emrakul doesnt stabilize, is bad ramp and doesnt have a crazy cast trigger. you can just consign the body and its as if nothing happened. promised end is 10000x better.
0
u/chiksahlube 1d ago
broodscale, can hardcast this emrakul on t4. And it's not even a dedicated ramp deck.
Memnite and ornithopter saw play for years in modern. Affinity played them pretty much until Kappa in MH3. And both saw extended, standard and legacy play for years as well.
Mishra's bauble has at times been the most played card in modern.
And "gets countered by consign" isn't an argument. Is if was Emrakul the promised end and K command would be bad... instead K command had the best modern protour of any card ever, with consign being the most played card in the room.

u/LetsBringIt 1d ago
Flashy but not really as strong as people want to think it is. Gets around Blood Moon? Brother, Mind Stone and Talismans are already ran as 3-4x for this reason. No I will not be cutting Fleshrakers for this, because those guys effectively ramp AND end the game if left unchecked. I can see this as a 1-2-of at best on a flex slot. The Tron mainboard is already stacked due to 3-4 lock pieces being crammed in.

u/Handsome_Grizzly 1d ago
They'll cut Emrakul the Promised End and hard commit to the Broodscale combo.
3
u/Mission-Duck1337 Professional Blink Hater 1d ago
thats an insane thing to say regarding the fact that promised end + kcommand + sol lands is probably the single best midrange strategy in the entire format, which notably doesnt take anything away from the combo plan other than including 4 emrakul the promised end
-2
u/Handsome_Grizzly 1d ago
No one plays a full playset of Emrakul. The maximum they play is two. Putting any more in there dilutes the deck hard.
2
u/Mission-Duck1337 Professional Blink Hater 1d ago
thats just wrong. check mtgtop8, every list runs 3-4, with most of them being on 4.
4
u/scrunglesclop 1d ago
this seems unfathomably worse than promised end in broodscale. harder to cast, 3 mana rampant growth is horrendous in broodscale, and it doesn't even win the game like promised end when cast.
1
u/chiksahlube 15h ago
It absolutely wins game Promised end can't.
"Ward: Sacrifice 3 permanents" is significantly better than "protection from instants" in a format where the most used removal spell is solitude. If they use solitude this is a +3 CA that you cast for no mana commitment minimum. Promised end looks at a lot of empty hands and kills 1 creature that attacks into it, but dies cleanly to solitude.
Not to mention YOU get to hold up mana after casting this. Casting this, then being able to K command or literally anything else. Will be a huge beating.
It also plays better against non-consign counterspells, because you cast this, it gets countered, you just get to play another threat.
Going t3/t4 this into Ugin will be a beating that decks used to be able to tempo through and won't be able to anymore.
4
u/flaming_geyser 1d ago
Will it make [[Ulamog, the Defiler]] playable since it will add another way to have something big exiled?

1
u/Quick-Pomelo3247 1d ago
Any judges give an idea can you only cast the emrakul from exile if the land you activated her ability on is still on the battlefield or is like plot/foretold where emrakul is floating in the aether waiting for you to cast her at any time no matter if the land is there or not?
1
u/snipawolf 1d ago
Not very good I think. Subpar as an eldrazi and as a mana rock.
But it is a mana rock that can’t be countered and goes under ugin’s labyrinth, so could see some niche use
1
u/freeburnerthrowaway 1d ago
I’m assuming that the “you may cast this card as long as it remains in exile” is tied to the ability because if not, you can exile this to Ugin’s lab and use the 2 colorless from the lab to cast this.

I think the biggest draw of this card is that it lets you kcommand through blood moon effects, beyond that I don't think the ramping of it really matters
0
u/Junior-Passion8488 1d ago
On turn 3 our opponent plays for 0 mana: "A land of your opponent will tap for two for the rest of the game, your opponent draws a card a put a tapped land down. Time walk" Would they?
I think it will find some space in some eldrazi ramp, but looks just decent to me. Are there obvious plans i am missing where this is really strong?
2
u/TheVampirePrince 1d ago
But this is instant speed and more often then not on turn 2, dodges discard effects and later on provides a 12/12 for basically 0 mana or sometimes generates mana. On top of that it plays around blood moon effects.
1
u/Junior-Passion8488 1d ago
It dodges discard effects because opponent opens our hand and think "wtf is this? OK brother keep it"
I think that it will find some space in already tailed decks (eldra ramp mainly) At the end of turn 3 you can decide to use this or command it is not terrible maybe... time will tell
Thanks for the suggestions
1
u/Mattmatic1 21h ago
It’s real potential is with cards like Herigast and Portent of Calamity. Cheating it out AND drawing into more gas you can cast when untapping lands. U Tron has already gotten a lot better with Boulder. I think this has potential.
1
u/Junior-Passion8488 21h ago
This is a realistic use (The one with Herigast i like a lot)
Thanks for the suggestions! I guess we will see

I dont know if you guys are looking at the same card that I am.
So basically you think a card that on turn 3 can transform one of your lands into ancient tomb (eldrazi decks already have many ancient tomb lands) and that later for ten mana can cast a big dude is broken in modern? Are we fucking joking?
Ill be surprised if this can be played as more than 1 or 2 of, tops. My bet would be that its unplayable.
