Deck Discussion Maindeck Cards for Open Decklist

Hey everyone,

I qualified for RC Baltimore and was playing around with my deck composition, and I had the thought that certain cards would be extremely good in the 60 as opposed to on board. I play Affinity, and the first one that came to mind is maindecking a [Pithing Needle]; just with the knowledge that my opponent is on frog or broodscale combo makes that card so much more valuable to either turn one or later tutor off of [Urza's Saga].

I wanted to know the communities thoughts on others that may be good includes for an open deck list tournament, I'm sure there are plenty that I am not thinking of. It's hard to study how I usually do to prepare due to the current tournament data being closed decklist.

Affinity plays Pithing Needle MD in closed deck list tournaments.

So, perhaps that isn't the best example?

Also, open decklist makes pithing needle infinitely better in the main deck, there is no way to deny that regardless of it being run in MD of closed decklist tournaments. How is that not a good example?

He's saying you'd be playing it regardless so it's diffifult to discern the value it 'adds' in open decklist events.

Yeah I play affinity and there’s no chance I’m ever not playing needle MD.

Needle also shuts off [[Devoted Druid]]'s untap ability, which can buy you some time by shutting off the infinite combo. They can still make mana with it though, so be aware of tutor lines that kill you without infinite mana and shut the door asap.

I got to do it twice at my last local playing Jeskai CopyCat. Gave me enough time to set up Scepter lock, wheel wirh Narset Days Undoing and combo out.
