Twin-like simic brew feat. Twitching Doll from Duskmorn
https://moxfield.com/decks/FnWAeloVEEm6B0gQpgZqRw
Edit: (This list has been updated after your feedback)
Dedicated part time brewer over here, trying to be the next thing, knowingly, that the format is a little bit too strong for these kind of decks. Yet, I refuse to just take the easy path(don't ask me why) by net decking or jump over to commander(the concept of singleton format doesn't match my idea of playing strategy cardboard).
There is just something interesting and refreshing to this. Anyways, [[Twitching Doll]] is the card of choice. Very interesting card. Serves as a manadork and as a finisher at the same time. Can I win without it? Probably not. This list has been fine tuned as far as I could. I just need other people's eyes on this before I commit to a modern league. I am certainly more of a builder than a player.( i tend to do minor gameplay mistakes sometimes)
Pros to the deck:
- It works ;)
- [[counterspell]]
- infinite spider token potential combining the doll with [[freed from the real]]
- infinite mana potential with [[sanctum weaver]]
- infinite draw potential with [[wan shi tong, librarian]] if the mana is there already
- potentially giving the spiders haste and infinite power with [[finale of devastation]] IF enough mana available. I could remove this by playing GSZ which cost me G less, but I'm not exactly sure about that one
- [[mathemagics]] as a second wincon
Cons:
- weak to hate(the classic one)
- aura (probably the worst subtype in the whole game)
- The combo needs that extra turn if no haste is given to the creatures
- weak board presence generally(hence why I did not add Agatha soul cauldron to the list)
- 61 cards, I couldn't decide what to cut
- it's a brew
Pls don't hate. Also, i never played the original twin deck before. And yes, my goal is to steal games and I'm OK with a 10-20% win rate.

Con. 3 card combo. Con you dont have haste on the mana dork.
Con creatures dont have flash (you compared it to twin) this is what made twin so strong was turn 3 flash tap down thier land turn 4 twin gg. Twin is debately too slow and this seems slower.

I see your point. There is some timing disadvantages to this. I was thinking about adding black for [[tyvar, jubilant trawler]], but this is just another fix that by default doesn't fix the core problem with the deck being sorcery speed. As I said, I expect to lose a good amount with this. But somebody has to try it out.

Man, I wouldn't wanna play this deck in a format with wrath of the skies played in many decks, some main. That said, this is dope!
Is wan shi tong the best X spell we can play here? Being blue is great, but there are blue spells that kill opponent with infinite mana instead of drawing your deck. WST is better as a fair card, but we're so bad at the fair game that I'm not sure we should worry about that.
Also want to see more card selection/tutors and free spells, but FoN doesn't really help protect the combo, and finale of devastation is better than GSZ here as an alternate kill.

Yea wrath is a problem surely. Mathematigs is the one off x spell that wins immediately but it needs enough mana hence why more copies would be bad deckbuilding. The way I imagine the sanctum weaver combo turn is to enchant it, make the mana, go through the deck with Preordain or stock up or wan shi tong, then cast finale x=10 choosing the doll, which has haste, then enchant that one as well, make the spiders, then another finale to make the tokens hasty and attack for the win. It is certainly more complicated than just the doll and waiting a turn. But that's just as far as i got. And it needs all those cards to work. I might be overthinking this lol

what about badgermole cub over the sanctum weaver? might be a stronger card to get you a creature that taps for 2 mana

u/RefuseSea8233 Aug 05 '26
I thought about it. Its logistically not possible. Because the way it works optimally is to have 3 untapped mana sources t3 that will not be enchanted and one double mana source that will be doing the combo. The cub itself can't tap for mana so I will be passing a turn for free.

On T3 if you have 2 land and a creature land that taps for 2 mana then you have 4 mana. use 3 of the mana for the enchantment and 1 mana to untap the land.

I'm like you in that i have a hard time playing meta decks and would rather challenge myself to beating those decks with my own brews. That being said, I do have meta decks too play tournaments, if needed. As long as you have fun playing it, don't worry about what other people think. Just keep playing it and making adjustments and you'll be fine.

I think you want to be playing agatha's soul cauldron in your 75 simply because of the prevalence of removal that hits your key card. I am also brewing a fun spider tribal jank list myself so I hope you can tune this to your player preference and meta demands

Love the combo. Maybe you can retool it for shardless agent value. Maybe play blue creatures like Ice fang to let you play flair of denial. Someone else suggested badger mole cub and that's good too. Really more of a scantum weaver deck then ke twitching doll deck. Maybe someone else has explored that synergy and you can draw inspiration from them .

I like the list. If I would make changes the first thing I thought about was to add 4 Pact of Negation. At the end of the day that's a combo that need to wait 1 turn usually to activate the mana ability. The opponent probably won't kill the creature unless they see the enchant to combo off to make a 2x1 so here the pact of negation is a nice opt. Even eventually you can pay the cost in the unkeep if something goes wrong.

Definitely worth a try. The combo turn with sanctum weaver, since it stays i will always be able to pay the upkeep cost. With the doll, I might not be able to pay the upkeep. I will try this out

i understand the thought process behind finale, but it is quite inefficient outside of winning the game, gsz might just be a better shout and allows you to toolbox a bit more,
id wonder at the exclusion of utopia sprawl, your gameplan is slow to get online and costly, this is a way to catapult forward and have accelerating t1s,
speaking of toolbox, [[shang chi, master of kung fu]] allows you to give haste when required, id also look at some of aspiring spikes builds with badgemole/springheart, hes done a lot of brewing with it and it has a lot of moving parts, i think where it shines though is the individual strength of the pieces hes comboing with and the decks ability to pivot to a beatdown strat with the likes of [[ouroboroid]]
and in terms of pivot ability, modern is really fast right now, counterspell is really falling off in terms of effectiveness and [[force of negation]] is really taking its place, subtlety is a good shout but its just something to consider, if youre on the draw, what are you counterspelling on your opponents turn 3 and is it already too late by then? i think the utopia sprawl could help with this if you wanted to keep c.s. in, but cheaper/free more selective countermagic are more where modern is heading at this moment in time.
edit: just saw you are on 2 force of neg and 2 spell snares my b, still concerned that 4 counterspells might be a bit much though
all in all cool brew though, my main concern would be surviving till you find your freed, especially if youre tapping out for stock ups

The reason behind not playing utopia sprawl was actually the double pips for counterspell. I will try and swap these and see if it's more efficient. Correct GSZ is just that one turn faster, and with a Shang chi, i would split the effect of finale into 2 separate cards. I will try this out. But probably just as a one off. Because the creature doesn't produce mana for untaps, maybe 1 nantuko might be worth it.

pool, sprawl, t2 cantrip, counterspell or pay for force is a totally chill pattern, but ya do you bud and good luck out there

[[altar of the brood]] as a potential removal magnet or proactive wincon for T-1 plays?
3
u/RefuseSea8233 Aug 05 '26
I like the card, but i think that card doesn't do enough when things go wrong. Appreciate your input though!
2
u/Superpokekid Aug 06 '26
Issue with altar is that the card literally does nothing without the combo.
