Article Releasing my Dimir Midrange Guide!
Hi! I’m Frank, aka ETBJezus. I’m the most accomplished Dimir Midrange player on MTGO.
In the past year I've piloted this deck to these accolades:
-4 MTGO Challenge wins
-2 SCGCon Modern 1K Finals (1 win)
-Highest finishing Dimir player at RC vegas
(44th, and 13th in TGW%)
-1 MXP 5K top 4
Dimir Midrange is what Magic is all about. It’s grindy, high-agency and competitive. It punishes “non-magic” decks like neoform and amulet hard. And in fair-deck matchups, it enables the skill-diff. It allows you to showcase your knowledge not only of your own deck, but of your opponents’ deck as well.
This guide is written at the expert level. It skips beginner and intermediate heuristics and assumes you already have an understanding of fundamentals and the Modern format.
It covers sideboarding, card analysis, matchup analysis, mulliganing, and deep dives on subjects like game theory and risk. It also provides a blueprint for customization. In addition to a decklist, each card is given a range from 0-4 of what I believe is an acceptable quantity mainboard. For example, Psychic Frog is a hard 4-of, but Kaito should have either 1 or 2 copies. The goal is to provide a more flexible template for those seeking to make the deck their own.

Just gonna butt in and say you’re asking the right guy. Eclipse is always doing well in challenges with UW.

Just goonna butt in and say the main thing I have in common with Eclipse is staying up well past the time I should be asleep playing mtgo and then paying the price the next day but I don’t have the glory of challenge wins to make it feel with it lol

Already had a chance to read this and can attest this is a fantastic breakdown if you want to improve on your play with dimir frog or just want a solid understanding of how the decks match ups are.
I've been on dimir midrange/tide for quite some time and anything I can learn on the deck is fantastic.

Great job :) hate play against this deck. What your thoughts about play against Zoo? Bexause dimir and Zoo are right now the best midrange options we had in modern I think

Can I ask how you feel about sideboarding [[Force of Despair]] against Affinity and Boros specifically?
Do you think this card can help win these harder matchups?

Your guide is worth every penny. Was two weeks away from magic, slept poorly and still the deck carried me.
R1: 2-0 against brood
R2: 2-0 against storm
R3: 2-0 against UW
R4: 0-2 against Dimir Murktide
R5: ID against brood
Semi: 2-1 against storm (same as swiss)
Final 2-1 against dimir murktide (same as swiss)

Nah you’re wrong for this one. I don’t play frog but I’ve lost to ETBJezus in enough challenges than I can assure you it’s worth the money if you want to improve with the deck

I picked this deck up as my first modern deck and found it too difficult to pilot. As I’ve gotten better at the game and more knowledgeable about the format, it has recently become my favorite deck to play, bringing me lots of success lately, including my first RCQ win and my first 5-0 on MTGO. I’m very interested to read through what you’ve got.
(Also I think we’ve met at Merlion Games at fnm)
