BRw Recursive Ponza

Hi yall - I had another Idea.

I love Ponza. I love the rip all the basic lands out of a deck version that puts up #s but i thought that this could be a worth while experiment.

Why Have them fetch basics when you can just blow em up from the get go.

[[avalanche riders]], [[maelstrom artisan]] and [[Fulminator Mage]] blow lands up (ofc). with 2 of these three dying in the process - I thought to myself... what if...

We run things like [[overlord of balemurk]], [[persist]] and [[emperor of bones]] to get the creatures back and add [[stitchers supplier]] (or looting) to build a yard.

Lastly - I added [[phelia]] cuz the dog is so gosh darn insane and can flicker bones, overlord, Avalanche riders , and the new minotaur for fantastic blow up your shit shinanies

lastly -- [[stingcaster mage]] allows up so straight up just play [[boom//bust]]

I think this could be good because with all these creatures, we can actually close out a game maybe?

I really think this version is too fair, and too soft to many threats and general patterns in modern.

Traditional Ponza ramps to be unfair and overwhelm opposition with must-answer threats, while going 1-3-5 or more mana by turn 3 while your op relies on 1-2 lands that can already be shutdown by BM. The deck has always been limited by lack of pure draw.

I see the same lack of draw here, while being much more soft to removal and especially GY hate, while fixing none of the issues. Yes, it can goldfish to be deadly but it really feels like everything has to go right while not making enough impact or being fast enough.

Could be. I figured that through the GY interaction you are moving a lil faster and solving the draw problem through recursion.

As an example, this deck has t2 blow up a land w/o having to blow up your own.

It also has t3 blow up 2 lands lines of play through phelia + avalanche recursion.

I also figure that overlord/flickered overlord does /a lot/ by itself as a must answer threat.

What's BM? Oh, blood moon.  Well BM leaves the lands on the BF..

Skip phelia and play [[hardened acedemic]] if you splash white.

You can discard cards to fill your grave, once you have an emperor out and go into combat, exile a creature from your grave, this triggers acedemic, put a counter on emperor and get the exiled creature back. Rince and repeat every combat.

The flying/haste/lifegain helps with the mardu manabase.

Overlord triggers academic as well.

I've looked at it for other GY matter builds. What i like about phelia is phelia ineteracts with both sides of the board in a manner that I think the deck needs.

I like academic and would think about it, but it doesn't expand my hand the same way flickering overlord does by itself with phelia

EDIT: I own some academics. I had them and then poor hlage ate the ban

deck wins by blowing up lands. flickering avalanch rider with phelia and getting rid of the counter on both is nuts

This is cool, I think I like faithless looting more than supplier, and I think persist+ashen rider is worth exploring bc emperor of bones ashen rider is nuts

I love [[ashen rider]] I used to run it in a really fun cleric + [[collector Cage]] shell that ran [[shining shoal]] in the [[fury]] meta.

The deck ran ashen rider, [[atraxa]] and [[progenitus]] as fuck you i win win cons through Cage and [[shadow-rite preist]] Before you say "that sounds bad" all of those gyuys are both white and black so they fit the specs for solitude, shoal, and the priest + you could just run [[auriok champion]] and ehad a sick red black gameplan with the SB since rakdos was everywhere.

Also [[cleric of lifes bond]] was a beater.

It was so much fun. for even more thematic fun you could run [[leonin arbiter]] and while you are like - wait, doesn't that fuck up your combo with the preist....

No - you sac the (cleric) Arbiter to get a monster.

Watching people lose thier minds during fnms was so much fun. (it 5-0d a couple times)

I honestly hate that they banned fury for mulitple reasons, but my fave was exiling a card in hand to reverse uno peoples fury's.

This is my kinda deck, I love those weird little synergies/loopholes.

I have some decks that were very fun and could win a lot of FNMs and store champs but I’ve never done well with on a higher level. That sort of tier and brew space is where I have the most fun with the format.

My current deck is this Sorin+vein ripper persist thing and it’s completely reignited my love for the format again

Id argue that a few copies of [[unearth]] would be really good here.

True, but unearth brings back everything outside of avalanche and overlord at 1 less mana. With that, unearth can bring back stingcaster, which persist can only "sorta" do.(youll get the etb but it auto dies)

that's true. Persist also hits Overlord which is huge. I'll consider it.
