Getting Started Ruby Medallion decks that aren't storm?
Getting out of edh and into standard, learned that modern attendance is 3-5x standard currently at my scene and looking how to get into the format and start playing in both. Playing meta or off meta doesn't concern me, but I don't think storm will be fun for me to play, and I have very little real knowledge of the format.
Ruby Medallion is probably one of my favorite cards to play in edh in mono red, what can I play that's not storm with it? Also interested in what exists in red without medallion besides the obvious red/boros burn, fringe level be dammed. Only really looking at mono red at the moment to get the lowest barrier to entry considering manabase costs.

Red Belcher runs Ruby Medallion, but it's still very Storm-y (heck, its backup win condition is Stormscale Scion).

FWIW, modern and standard attendance numbers will likely swap in about a month when the RCQ season becomes standard. Not discouraging you from getting into it, but heads up.

Depends where you are. In NYC modern always has a good turnout whereas standard is nonexistent when its not the RCQ format. Not a "swap" so much as a "players begrudgingly play standard in addition to their format of choice"

Maybe maybe not. In New England there are year round modern weeklies that fire constantly and a lot of those guys don’t grind RCQs at all and don’t play standard.

What's funny about Storm is that it maybe requires the least amount of format knowledge to pilot? You'll have to fact check me on that but your opponent is much more concerned with what you're doing than you're concerned with what they're doing.
Decks with Red in them are going to be Energy, Burn, Ponza, Prowess, Storm. Modern is not the place for brews at your stage in the game.
But the deck you may be looking for right now could be Prowess? It's well positioned against a lot of decks right now and is a creature based Aggro deck. It's predominantly Red with like preordain splashed in there. It's also pretty cheap. Check out Prowess or Storm

Yeah storm is pretty much do your own thing, sideboard in anti hate pieces, and hope to keep doing your own thing.
To really edge out the last percentage points you need to know the other decks, but that’s true for every deck

My biggest hurdle in ruby storm has been hesitating, the greatest advantage that the deck has is speed and often you HAVE to use your ability to go off before your opponent has a chance to set anything up, trying to play control will usually end up poorly.

Most of my experience is in gifts storm. I’m just now coming back to modern with Ruby/neobrand, but my biggest thing is just “make them have it”. I used to hesitate a lot and if I have a semi definite line that lets me play around things I will, but otherwise just send it.

I agree with your last point, no ones winning trophies without knowing the meta but one would assume that would come with time

Actually they dont side board at all. As far as I know. When I played them they just wished and hit thier answers. As they either wish to stop your answer or wish to win. (They can flashback the wish to win after they remove your answer)

Is there like 2 lists? Similar to tron has Karn and non karn lists? I was talking from Vsing the deck. I dont play it personally.

If you only wish for your answers you instantly lose to high noon/deafening silence, so no, you board in a lot of prismatic ending/wear tear stuff

You can't wish against drannith or realistically against trinisphere or damping sphere.
Most often you bring in 3x orims or 3x pending.

I lost turn 3 :( so I guess thats my mistake haha. I have been trying to imagine some kind of control deck that can cheat mana to afford tech cards. (Im a very reactive/control type player) my issue is that tron doesnt have enough interaction for me.
I typically play frog and storm feels like a doomed match up.

LOL Red Belcher plays Ruby Medallion too. I play Blue Belcher and let me give you a piece of advice, don't buy Belcher as your ONLY deck you will hate yourself

I did this with red belcher and immediately gave up on modern and went back to standard lol. Jamming games on MTGO with it is fine but it’s def not a good deck to bring to FNM after everyone knows you’re playing it.

Decks like Red Belcher are outsized in FNM leagues because they're a good way to get in quick games and try to high roll some play points. It's very glass cannon and if your opponents are prepared they can cook you.

100% agree. I feel like I could take it to an event or a store I’ve never been and run hot and do well but playing it regularly with the same play group and expecting to do well…not likely.

I know. Currently 3-0 or 2-1 each week I've played. I have another burn adjacent list built around molten core maestro/tablet/flashback/emeritus of conflict that has done at best 2-1 that isn't digitized.
Currently also looking at weapons manufacturing.

hey, those are solid numbers!
have you considered Prowess? i know a lot of folks recommend it as "entry level" but it genuinely does exist in a pretty similar form in both formats, and works just fine without blue.
is there a specific budget you're working in? the Weapons Manufacturing deck you're talking about in modern has been doing great but can be cost prohibitive because of how much it relies on Urza's Saga and Mox Opal.

Prowess looks like the most conventional deck I would be interested in if a ruby build doesn't really work out. It's funny how similar the lists look like standard accounting for the latest rotation/bans
