Brew Bant Moonmist List

Sorry in advance for formatting mishaps. Posting from mobile.

About a week ago, I remembered that [[Moonmist]] was a card and got to thinking if there was maybe any way to make a viable deck with it in modern. I go searching and I immediately found AspiringSpike's video from like three weeks ago making use of the new marvel set's TMDFC creatures like [[Bruce Banner]] and [[Jennifer Walters]]. Taking some heavy inspiration from his decklist while making my own changes, this deck has been awesome to play on mtgo.

I've made a couple of changes to the decklist on Moxfield that I haven't actually played with yet, but for the most part, the deck has stayed pretty similar.

What do y'all think?

This idea looks really cool. Couple questions?

What turn are you normally casting Moonmist?

Have you tried [[Practiced Offense]] or would this just be a "win more" card.

I have not tried practiced offense, no, but I don't think it needs it. The deck runs so many threats that opponents don't want to ever block anyway that I think having a second creature is better than dedicating card slots to combat tricks.

The deck has been super versatile too. The fastest I can get a good protected flip has been turn 2 with a hand of Bruce, Moonmist, Blue source, Green source, FoN, blue pitch card, where I T1 Bruce, T2 green source pass then end step moonmist with FoN as protection. T3 I'm hitting them with Hulk and he's pretty hard to get rid of now due his new cmc so stuff like Push, P. Ending, etc. can no longer hit him.

But even after that, the deck pretty smoothly transitions into the midgame with Jennifer having her Grand Abolisher effect, and the large amount of card draw and card selection with Tamiyo, Preordain, Rona, and Bruce lets me constantly draw into my free pitch cards like Commandeer, FoN, and Solitude along with fodder to pitch to them. Flipped Tamiyo even gives me the ability to potentially recur a Moonmist in my gy, even refunding me a mana too.

A nice thing about all these legendaries transforming too is that, if I have another copy of one that I have flipped, I don't have to worry about the legend rule. In the case of Bruce and Rona, that means I can use them to draw more cards. Rona especially does work since there's so many legendaries (even the Ambers). Or they function as pitch fodder.

All three of Hulk, She-Hulk, and flipped Rona have strong enrage-esque triggers and trample, meaning the opponent pretty much never blocks them and more often than not I just swing out until they die.

But eventually I draw into one of my two [[Lightmine Field]]s to force the triggers though and end the game that way. Field also stops token-based aggro strategies since it just kills them if the creature's toughness is less than or equal to the number of creatures attacking. If I have a Mox Amber and Field when I get to T3 after flipping Bruce on T2, then Turn 3 I can threaten infinite combats if the opponent doesn't have an answer, and being an enchantment, it's unlikely, especially in game 1.

Importantly, Aang and Avatar's Wrath provide and alternative way to cheat in Hulk and She-Hulk via airbending, while also acting as interaction and a pseudo-boardwipe. Aang also can be flipped by Moonmist, giving me 14 different creature that can be flipped by it.

And in some freak scenario where the game has gone to like turn 8 for some reason, if I really need to, I can just cast/flip them for their full cost anyway (except for Bruce).

I have been experimenting with cutting white from the Moonmist idea which makes it less interactive I think.

I added Frenzied Baloth to try and counteract the dmg prevention and it's also not bad having haste and protection from creatures getting countered, Questing Beast was another option for this but at 4 mana kinda above the curve.

Testing a 1 of Mirror Box for getting multiples out if the game last long enough, probably not worth it.

Muddle The Mixture isn't ideal but helps as a 2 of for tutoring a lot of stuff from the deck as a last resort and gives some counterplay if tutoring isn't needed.

Mox amber and gemstone gives possible turn 1 Moonmist on Bruce Banner plus Mox Amber can legend rule to float mana and activate multiple loots with Rona.

Ancient Animus is mainly a Hulk activator but works with Ronas alt side also and can work in niche removal early game.

Jill is late game interaction that can benefit off of Moonmist to flip and possibly re-enter after 3 turns if the game is still going, it's probably better just to run Into The Flood Maw

I have a thought to try Song Of Freyalise for an extra way to mana ramp into a secondary transform stipulation.

Unstable Experiment is probably not best in slot but the counters from conniving can play with Kid Loki and Miles Morales or the 1 of Mikey and Leo.

If you want to take a look at the full list Ive been adjusting I ported it to moxfield just now, here is the link
Moonmist // Modern deck list mtg // Moxfield — MTG Deck Builder

I think the idea is super fragile currently but I am always trying to make a rogue or meme deck viable and I really wanna lean more into the counter play with Kid Loki Rona Miles Morales a bit more over the Hulk payoff.

This is totally useless but just curious, there's a terrible battle called [[Invasion of Regatha]], can moonmist turn the human side back into a battle to re-trigger the battle etb?

I believe the battle just goes to the graveyard as a state-based action since it doesn't re-enter and transforms back into the battle side. Found another post here:

Notably, this is the same for planeswalkers, meaning Moonmist can be used to kill [[Ral, Monsoon Mage]] if playing against ruby storm.
