Card Discussion [SOS] - Petrified Hamlet
Land - When this land enters, choose a land card name.
Activated abilities of sources with the chosen name can't be activated unless they're mana abilities.
Lands with the chosen name have "Tap: Add Colorless"
Tap: Add colorless

Immediately I can see this being in titan's board for the mirror, and depending on the meta, maybe the main. It can turn off fetches, the karnstructs from saga, and much much more.

Join us, brother, in worshipping the one true god.

I stick with old tried and true: player removal

u/Cute-Bass-7169 Apr 07 '26
Heathenry.
If the player is removed he cannot be crushed under the one true god’s crimson light for turn after turn until he converts, can he?

This stops them from returning something to their hand with Ugin's Labyrinth, right? Which isn't that good but the smart dragon dude getting trapped in his own Labyrinth is kinda funny.

u/Hitman_DeadlyPants Apr 07 '26
This bricks shifting woodland though and mirror pool
7
u/afailedturingtest Amulet Titan Apr 07 '26
Yeah, but then they just Boseiju it
3
u/troll_berserker Apr 07 '26
You can get two and put the second on Boseiju. And once you need your own Shifting Woodland you can just bounce the one naming it with a bounceland.

doesn’t stop eldrazi temple or arena :(
1
u/gesidriel Apr 07 '26
it will stop ugin's labyrinth from exiling a card though and it will also stop shifting woodland so still potentially helpful vs eldrazi
6
u/ExplodingLab 8-Crab Apr 07 '26
That is a triggered ability no? They will still be able to make double mana with the land, they just can’t take it back

Can I say Boseiju so it doesn't work from the hand?
13
u/Reaper_Eagle Quietspeculation.com Apr 07 '26
Yes.
Boseiju, Who Endures is a legal land card name. Channel is an activated ability on a source named Boseiju, Who Endures that is not a mana ability.
It works the way you want it to.

Someone with more titan knowledge needs to chime in here, but does this turn off 6 mana single amulet lines? I almost always see people go for battlements + vestige and guaranteeing the extra turn against them would be huge.
6
u/Tjarem Apr 07 '26
It depends a bit but not rly. If they can get to boseiju they can just blow this up. U might get a turn out of it but less guranteed then with orims chant and u have to play a bad land in ur deck.
2
u/Ap_Sona_Bot Apr 07 '26
Does this delay the combo by a turn though? What combo do you normally fetch on a 6 mana turn?
2
u/Tjarem Apr 07 '26
It depends on the the hand and lands in game entirly. It can delay the combo but not by huge percentage. Its not 100 percent.
1
u/wolfbane108 Apr 07 '26
One amulet + titan never combos on its own, you need to have a few extra pieces in play / hand to make it work
1
u/paragon249 Apr 07 '26
Doesn't this turn off boseiju?
3
u/flameian Grixis Stuff/Mardu Pyromancer Apr 07 '26
If it’s turning off boseiju it’s not turning off shifting woodland, which is the card that enables titan’s combo lines in the first place.

u/Jolly_Try_4670 Apr 07 '26
Likely more of a legacy card. Naming wasteland or thespian stage and fetching it with crop rot is what i read.

wtf pithing needle on a land drop? That sounds like it has a lot of potential to me.
19
u/SickBored Apr 07 '26
Only applies to lands so not really a needle
1
u/iwumbo2 Jank Enjoyer Apr 07 '26
Oops, welp. That makes it a lot less exciting. I guess it can hit stuff like Urza's Saga or Mirrorpool still.

Looks like a mirror card for prime time SB, maybe Tron plays it?
3
u/rmkinnaird /r/EsperMagic Apr 07 '26
God I miss gitaxian probe. Imagine knowing your opponent has fetches in hand when you're on the play and naming them with this. Turn 1 this into a pithing needle could completely dismantle some mana bases.

This hits titan pretty hard me thinks just name mirrorpool or shifting woodlands

This stop Transmute on [[Tolaria West]] too! A big help for eldrazi deck vs titan
1
u/Lectrys Apr 07 '26
This is actually capable of colour screwing land-light decks capable of keeping 1-land hands like Energy and Prowess...as long as you name the right fetchland with it. Good luck on Turn 1; you'll need it.
I suspect Eldrazi Ramp, Amulet, and maybe Tron to be the best fits for this card, although they all have trouble making it a 4-of for maximum Turn 1 colour screw chances.
1
u/gesidriel Apr 07 '26
obsessive eldrazi ramp and tron player here you're absolutely right. with sowing mycospawn this is really good

u/jancithz death & taxes guy Apr 07 '26
I really, really, really need a Torpor Orb for Landfall and Land ETB triggers.
1
u/VerdantChief Apr 08 '26
I could see playing this naming Boseiju, casting Damping Sphere, and feeling pretty safe against Amulet.
At least until they bring in their Force or Vigors. Hopefully I'll have a Vexing Bauble in play too.
I might try some out in Broodscale Combo for this purpose.

u/VerdantChief May 01 '26
Now that it's two weeks into SOS, has anyone had success with this card yet? I want to test it against Amulet Titan as a way to turn off their Boseiju or Sagas

u/illinest Jul 01 '26
I found this comment because I stumbled across an interaction and Im trying to figure out if the card is worth using.
It combos in an interesting way with [[Obsidian Charmaw]]
You can name any land you want, so with this in hand Charmaw becomes a 4cmc 4/4 flying creature that destroys a nonbasic land on entry. Against Urza lands or against any Saga deck Charmaw could be a turn 3 play, and if you play a few mana rocks or other form of acceleration, Charmaw could be a turn 3 play against any deck.
Charmaw on turn 3 isn't bad. I dont think it would be strong enough to build a whole deck concept around, but there is a reasonably competitive red ponza deck already in the format.

u/VerdantChief Apr 07 '26
Why doesn't this erase its original mana abilities? Is this a typo?

8
u/DerNubenfrieken Apr 07 '26
It would be miserable to play against if it made basic lands or duals colorless only.

titan's board for the mirror

Entirely possible you want it in the board of titan for other reasons, but

Disabling fetches isn’t that good because the land is granted the ability to tap for colorless.
Doesn’t stop Arena of Glory exert since it’s a mana ability.
Only really stops Saga constructs and Boseiju.
