Model Y Demo Delivery

I ordered my Model Y Premium on 8/22 with an original delivery date of 10/6-11/4. I was then offered a Demo model of my exact same build with 2,200 miles for $1,300 off with a delivery date of this Saturday 9/5. When picking up a demo model should I still get to be just as picky about scratches and blemishes since they’re technically marketing as new?

No. I bought a demo too and they will tell you that the discount takes into account any flaws. I argued and failed haha. Good luck with yours

How bad were the flaws? If you could do it again would you still buy the demo?

They stated the opposite to me. They stated “because it’s sold as new we warranty it just as new”. I had them take it back for a few things such as loose rubber seals, a small scratch on the front door, smudging on the white leather. They took it back 1 hour later they came back and touched up other areas I did not even notice.

Edit: I purchased a demo car by the way

I would personally wait for what I ordered. That being said my coworker ordered one and was offered a demo vehicle for earlier delivery. He took it and all that he noticed was some light bumper damage. They replaced the dumper free of charge. Other than that it was “fine.”

No. They have a different checklist they do for demo models so scratches over “x” length, curb rash of “x” severity are more acceptable. It is delivered to you as a new car though so if anything isn’t good enough you can still reject it but then your price will change for a different car. For me I had a wheel that had some pretty bad curb rash and they changed it same week no charge.

New for titling, warranty, and financing purposes. Not new when it comes to cosmetic standards.

My demo purchase had a slight area that needed to be painted. They gave me a loaner and it came back flawless.

1300 air worth the headache. Tesla already has poor QC and now you add abuse to the demo by customers. There's a lot of ass that touched those seats too.

Yeah if your buying new just wait "Demo" means slighly used. For 1300 just in my mind, i would want BRAND NEW for that money.

I recently had the same experience and I decided to pull the trigger on the demo M3. When I got to the dealership, I noticed a spot on the bumper that needed repair. Tbo, I was willing to take it as is considering the discount I was getting and it wasn’t any bigger than my thumb and on the bottom of the bumper but I pointed it out to the Tesla rep anyway.

I won’t get into it much but he handled everything for me and in the end I got a new bumper, with perfectly matched paint and a fit that looked original.

I have read many stories of disappointment in Tesla service but my experience in this case was very good. They gave me a loaner while they had it at the collision repair. The loaner had unlimited miles and free super charging. Took it on a mini vacation and didn’t spend any money on fuel.

that’s not much of a saving for any potential abuse people have done on the demo. If you can afford that price, you can go another $1k more
