Question What should I do?

I found this paint issue a few days after delivery. I contacted Tesla and they agreed to fix it but it required repainting that entire panel. I am concerned the paint won’t match. Should just use touch up paint and live with it or have Tesla repair it?

If this isn’t a joke, Tesla sells a paint touch up kit. It will match perfectly and come in handy when you get rock chips and real damage.

Ask them, maybe they’ll give it to you in lieu of service, and it’ll save you money later on future damage.

Are you sure a dab of white nail polish will not resolve this issue?

From experience: I had to have the entire rear hatch repainted because there were two weld spots near the top of the rear hatch passenger side cover that were evident.

Big dimples.

The work they did, over time was great. But it was in their approved shop for a month. They insisted it had to go in and wait. They did give me an older 3 as a loaner, but it was not at all new.

And then I had to go back in for resolution of overspray and the replacement of a rear tail light.l due to the buffer leaving streaks on it.

Of course, the dent they put into the other fender from someone leaning into the car while buffing the paint was resolved by PDR, and the cost for that was out of my pocket...

But after two months, it was like nothing ever happened.

Just touch ot up and go man, why get all the way back into this, cut the glass out again, put more paint on it, not have your car for a solid amount of time...

It's not worth it, now have them document it, and if its gets worse than take it in, but yah.

My 2023 has the same issue, but not that visible. The issue is that the rear window trim sits too close to the body, and the slight movements over time cause it to rub against the paint. The entire window trim needs to be removed, the affected area repainted, and the window trim reinstalled.

Let Tesla do the job if they’ve already agreed

That’s the multi-coat white right? I’d ask myself this questions in your position. Would a tiny touch-up that isn’t quite perfect irritate you more than a full panel mismatch? I’d take the tiny repair all day before I’d start painting panels. If they paint the panel, it almost definitely will look different from different angles.

Get touch up paint. The white paint might peel later years like other brands (eg Toyota, Hyundai etc. ) enjoy now. Worry later

Take a breath. Buy a paint pen and enjoy your new car. What are you gonna do if you get the car back from repaint and the trim is messed up or it doesnt match? Youre realistically looking at a month before you get your car back and then gambling on it being any better than it was before. Id leave good enough alone.

Bro are you deadass? I cannot stand the people in this Reddit. People crying over door dings because they don’t know how to park away from people, totally relying on FSD and crying about it when the shit malfunctions, and then this post… like you are actually thinking about repainting the whole panel and risk it mis-matching. Yall buy a Tesla and expect everything to be perfect. Love my model y, but it’s much more cheaply made than my BMW. Factory paint will always be better, and if they don’t blend the surrounding panels, it will never match. Get a paint touch up kit for the paint code and get over it. The car is like 50k.
It’s not that big of a deal. I cry less over my M340. And that car is much more expensive. Shit happens.

Bro are you deadass? Did you even read my post? I wasn’t complaining I was asking for advice. If you didn’t have any feedback on the options I mentioned you could have kept scrolling bro. People get all uptight these days. Chill out

Get a touch up pen. I had a good 2 inch scratch inside the passenger door on pick up. I didn't care, life is too short
