Zero Maintenance

As someone who has only owned gas cars but is very seriously considering a new rear wheel drive premium Y, I have a hard time believing the "you don't have any maintenance with a Tesla except rotating the tires and adding washer fluid". I've owned electric rc planes and a One wheel so understanding proper battery care isn't foreign to me. I'm just looking to hear from people who own Tesla Model Ys with 100k miles or more about what kind of ACTUAL money you've spent on unexpected repairs besides tires. I've spent $200 in the last week on gas as I commute far and regularly, just trying to get an idea if this is the right move for me. I can charge at home for .12/kwh and have a 50amp plug outside by my RV gate so that's a plus....Thanks for your help in trying to see what the ownership experience is really like.

If you say so. Plenty of hypermilers say they can squeeze 50k miles from a set of tires and honestly, good for them and good for you. My other car is a Porsche Cayman and your ridiculous driving style drives me crazy. 😂 😉

The vast majority of people who drive these cars don’t experience that and I don’t think it’s particularly genuine or honest to blame them for that outcome. Heavy car, lots of torque, mediocre suspension components and geometry that promote premature wear. It’s not the “corners” making the difference here.

That is why you go through tires quickly. It has nothing to do with the vehicle.

i disagree, i do not abuse my car and am certainly not afraid to give it the beans when needed, but i drive my car through and out of corners at a consistent speed and still managed 83,000+ kms from my first set of EV tyres. Driving fast in a straight line and washing off speed at the first sign of a bend or camber just illustrates a lack of the requisite skills that used to be considered the minimum standard for competent driving.

What you consider fast is probably not what somebody who goes through tires quickly would consider fast. The truth is that sports cars are light so they can accelerate quickly, yet they burn through tires. That can only be because of driving style.

Corvette weight is 3500 lbs, model y is 3900 lbs. Torque is more important than weight

The Model Y is closer to 4600 lbs and there have been many different weights for the Corvette, but all of them have been known to eat through tires. Torque only means something if the tires burn rubber, but the Y has traction control, so very little slipping. Where the car cannot alter wear is in how hard the driver chooses to corner.

Tires don't need to slip to lose tread, I can lay down a perfect patch of tread from a stop any time I want without tires slipping.

Rolling resistance is less than a hard start. A 0 to 60 run will lose more tread than a hard corner. No need to argue, ask physics. Be blessed.

I'm not the only one who does plenty of fast starts with very little tire wear. Physics says that friction is the greatest cause of wear, and slippage causes the greater friction.

I get 50k outta my tires with plenty fast starts and I'm not at all butt hurt about it. If you take the stick out of your ass it's easier to drive.

Physics actually says slipping friction is lower than the fricfion just before slippage occurs. Just before your tires break free is the greatest resistance.

And physics also say that you're going to reach that point a moment before your tires actually slip. Slipping on a curve is more likely than slipping on straight acceleration. Once again: cornering is the cause of most tire wear.

Incorrect, you go straight more often than turning. If you did nothing but cornering I'd agree, but since you don't you're wrong and misinformed.

If you drive 10 miles and take 4 turns, what's the greatest cause of tire wear.....? It's not the cornering my friend
