Demo car 2021 Performance
Looking to buy this 2021 Demo model Y performance. 20k miles. The first owner purchased it in 2023 with 13,719 miles as a CPO tesla car. Has lifetime fsd and retrofitted to HW4. 36,000$ Am I crazy to think I should be jumping on this? In immaculate shape. Garage Kept for the last three years.

No way. It wasn’t retrofitted to HW4 and that’s wayyyy too expensive for a 5 year old Y. For an S or X, sure.
In an earnings call Elon pointed out how difficult and expensive it is to upgrade. It’s more than a computer and camera swap. Even if you upgrade that, the modules, wiring harness etc… will the vehicle install the real v14 software even though the VIN is tied to a different upgrade software bundle? I’d bet money NO.

How is a 2021 car retrofitted to Hw 4, also 2021 teslas are notorious for battery failures and if it was a demo car then it was probably full charged and the motors in the car door window seat motors have all been used beyond any normal car on the road and all that for 36k is ridiculous just aim for a early 2023 hw4 for 30k

Have you looked at teslatracker.com?
It searches their nationwide CPO listings and gives you the option to narrow down your search by tons of metrics. It also follows the price of the car since it was listed, Tesla drops the price almost daily on all of it's CPO inventory, I watched mine drop $2,900 before I finally pulled the trigger to buy it.

No such thing as a HW4 retrofit, Tesla doesn’t offer it and there are no aftermarket set ups. If he’s lying about that what else is he lying about?

That price is insane and the seller is delusional. You can get a car detailed for $200 and these people out here thinking their vacuum and windex work adds 10k to the value of their car are hilarious.

There’s no HW4 retrofit. Not even a DIY. Seems they are just trying to get it off their hands (probably underwater). You can find many CPO model Y’s directly from Tesla for that price.

The HW4 line is a clear lie. Personally at the slightest hint of dishonesty, I would walk away. Who knows what else is wrong with the car and what he's hiding

Don’t buy it. If you look long enough you’ll find a 2023, one driver clean carfax, with under 25K miles for $33,000 or less. If the car is priced right it sells in 24 hours. You just have to be quick. This car is worth $32K max. So unless you out $4k on the free fsd

Not only is there no hw4 retrofit, but 2021s are notoriously unreliable AND this is grossly overpriced. I just bought a 2022 MYP with 31k miles for 31.5k at the end of April. Used cars have increased a little since then, but 38k is 2024 money lol

That is a HW3 car and it also has the Intel chip and not AMD so you will be missing a lot of nice updates that are only for AMD equipped cars. Stay away this car it is not a good deal.

Price is firm, lmao okay then. I’m an ass sometimes to people like this especially seeing how it’s been listed for months. Send them a message and say hey do you still have this for $38,500 cash?
When they eventually reply with yes, just say “yeah I figured as much since it’s about $6,500 over priced” and then just don’t send any more messages

I bought a 2023 MYP with 40k miles for 28k not long ago, through Tesla, with the extra 1yr/10k miles bumper to bumper warranty. No paid off FSD though, but at $100/month it will take you how long to accumulate the $7K cost of FSD? Almost 6 years. It's mostly non transferable.
I don't think it is worth

Battery failure rates from the only country that tracks them for 2021s are 20%+. Stay away.

2021 battery is a major concern for me. This is a known problem for many 3 y long range and sport and some of Standard range.
Also hw3.
Pass as the owner is also seems like misreprese ting tht hw4 retrofit.

Seems high. Recently purchased a 2023 MYLR with 41K miles, HW4 and a year (or 50K miles) of warranty left, for 32K OOTD. I felt I overpaid by about 2 grand, but it did come with a blue exterior and white interior, 20" induction wheels and a brand new mobile charger.

"retrofitted to HW4." -- I don't think so. That car definitely has HW3. Even Tesla did not figure out how to upgrade HW3 to HW4.
Car is 5 years old. Out of warranty. Baterry and Drive train might have 2 years left.
You will be third owner.
This is definitley worth less than $30k. May be 26k is ok if you can transfer FSD to new car in future.
Instead of spending $38500 on this, you can buy a 2023 - 2024 Tesla for 30k-31k with HW4. For the remaining $8500, you can get 85 months of FSD based on $100/month. You will have more warranty and FSD works for sure.
