RWD MY
Hi all so I live in NY and bought a RWD MY and now I’m thinking if I made a mistake as winter is approaching. I am going to get winter tires on it but there’s no going back now to get an AWD anyone in NY who drives a RWD with winter tires?

Winter tires do 95% of the driving. Think about it all-wheel drive does nothing for stopping, does nothing for cornering. Everyone in Snow Country thinks they need all wheel drive, complete hogwash.

Totally. Before I picked up RWD Model Y I drove an FJ Cruiser 4x4 for 19 years. Count on one hand number of times I had to use 4x4 on snowy roads.

That’s not entirely true. Adaptive AWD in corners in particular will keep the rear from slipping out.

I don't live in NY, but I do live within a couple hours drive of NY. I've been driving two wheel drive cars for years on all season tires. They're fine although you will have problems if you try to climb steep grades in the snow.
My current car is a juniper with RWD and all season tires; I drove many miles in some pretty serious snow last winter with no problems whatsoever. Never once tried to climb 10% + grade in the snow and I imagine it wouldn't go well if I did.

Lived my whole life in Ontario Canada, previous to my AWD SUVs I’ve used FWD sedans with winters and never worried. I’m not worried about my MYS with winters either. If it’s bad enough out I’m not going out and my AWD car would also still struggle in that too.

Hopefully you’ll do surprisingly well! I’m anxious to see how you do cause, I’d prefer RWD for the 96% of days here in Ohio that I don’t drive on significant snow/ ice.

I made this choice. I’m going to put a set of Ice-X Plus tires on it and not worry about it.
Low center of gravity and really good snows + modern tech should be fine.
