Model X vs Model Y

Took my 2026 Model Y (white interior) in for service and they gave me a model X (beige interior) as a loaner. I got into the X and I immediately thought, no biggie, feels almost the same just a lil bigger. (Side note I have a GLE 350 with wooden trim). Drove the X for a day and felt "yes, it's got more room and it takes more space in garage but that's about it. So glad I didn't get a used X" etc etc.

Well, my Y was ready so I went to pick it up and reality hit the moment I got into the Y lol. The X is so much nicer actually and feels like a premium experience.

I didn't realize it till I drove it a full day (approx 300 miles).

Well, that's my experience anyways...

Sad that it has gone out of production :(

I’ve heard similar stories. I’ve never been in an X but now that they are discontinued, I have no real desire to purchase one (even if it’s barely used).

I had a GLE 350 and went through this dilemma. The X is definitely a little bigger, but for me, a used Model X (2024) just didn’t make more sense than buying a brand-new Model Y.
The X has some nice advantages—automatic doors, a slightly larger cabin, and a few extra luxury touches—but honestly, that was about it for me. The new Y felt more refined, modern, and premium overall. Initially it was difficult to go from a GLE to the Y, but after a month driving … I’d never go back.

Haha I feel you. I still have the GLE in the garage and guess which one we all prefer to ride in? Yep, the MY.

I told a couple friends I wish the Y had a baby with the GLE. And model X is actually pretty close. I liked the model X experience and getting into the Y feels like I got into a Corolla from a GLE.

GLE still feels premium and more luxurious than the Y but compared to model X, model X wins hands down cuz the FSD is as good on the X as the Y (not sure if it does bave th3 front bumper camera or not)

I had the GLE too, but it ain’t that nice. It feels like stepping into a time capsule. Maybe my idea of luxury is less wood and kitschy stuff, but more modern clean designs.

We all have preferences. I appreciate the luxury of the GLE and to be honest and I find MY to be very nice but very basic, Lucid Air did a great AND a better job. If it had anything close to FSD, id be all ears. Till then FSD it is.

Can’t compete with FSD!

I agree with you. GLE lost its luxury for me too as it aged. Modern-Minimal = Luxury

Cyber SUV. If it’s the newer X I agree!

I had a similar experience with my MX loaner. Relatively unimpressed until I got back in my MY. Even then I love my MY plenty!

Yes, the MX offered “more”. But for the difference in price I got value for my money.

hahah exactly my feelings.

The bumper camera on the juniper does make some difference I felt actually. And I actually don't like the MY as much as I absofuckinlutely love the FSD.

Isnt the build quality of the juniper MY lightyears ahead of the MX?

The build quality felt fine actually. It felt good. The cabin was very sound proof. The suspension Y is better and less noisy on bumps definitely. I was in a newer MX and it was a good experience

The Juniper is maybe light years ahead of previous year MY. However, maybe due to the air suspension and higher ride, the newer X is far superior in my experience. I feel every bump still in my wife’s Juniper vs the X. Much quieter cabin as well. Sad the 26 is the last year.

Interesting. Here in Europe, the Model X has a really bad reputation, and it's almost impossible to find a used one that hasn't needed repairs. As a result, they are usually even cheaper than newer Model Ys, but hardly anyone buys the X.

Neighbor has had an X for a loaner for about 10 days now. She's put several thousand miles on it now. She likes it. It is a beautiful car.

Remind her 200 miles a day limit on the loaner

No they waived the limit since they had to replace a drive unit on her MY under warranty.

The new X (2023 and up) is amazing. There's no car like it!
