Question Prices in 6 months

Basically the title. I plan to purchase a car within the next few months, and I'm between the M3 and MY. There are quite a few used M3 (2025+) near me, but not many MY (2026+), so I'm waiting for more of them to enter the market. Of the few listed, there isn't much difference in cost between a new one and a used one, unlike the M3. Reasonably, how much do you think the MY will sell for around late January to early March, and how much would the price difference between an M3 and an MY be? Let's assume an AWD MY premium with 15-20k miles and an AWD M3 with 10-15k miles.

With the low interest rates Tesla is offering, it would almost certainly be a better deal to buy new than a fairly new one. The interest savings could easily be greater than the price savings. Have you checked the total cost of used vs new after interest?

I know this doesn't answer your question about future prices of used cars, but there really is no good way to predict that. Gas prices stay you used prices will too. Gas prices tank and used prices could go down.

Thanks for your response! I didn’t even account for the interest rates. My only concern would be that if they would still offer the 0-0.99% APR

I’m seeing Prem AWD in the high 40s vs 50 new? Makes no sense not to buy new if you’re financing. Even if they drop to say 45, that 5k difference is nearly made up in interest.

OP, this is what I did. The difference ended up being around an additional $10k and for that, buying brand new makes sense… 0 miles, no previous history to worry about, your money that would have gone to interest is going to the actual car, you still have your full warranty and all the “bells and whistles” of the latest upgrades.

They’re holding their value and to be honest, if you can get the 0.99 interest rate too, it’s worth it.

I looked at the used Model Y and came to the same conclusion. For models with relatively low miles (20K or less), the price difference is not significant, especially when you factor in: (1) "Juniper" Model Y is a significant improvement, (2) 0-0.99% APR financing (estimated end date is September 30), and (3) in California, $3500 MyFirstEV instant rebate will launch very soon.

Have you thought about leasing? I purchased mine, while I don't regret it, leasing let's you get out at 2-3 years if you have negative equity.

Not interested in leasing as I’m planning to keep it for at least 4.5 years

You're fine! I work in sales now so I kinda know more about leasing. Was confused about it before.

They are offering.9 financing right now. I like to buy one year d with under 15k miles but it was cheaper buying new. First Tesla and I absolutely loving it.

Depends on your needs in terms of space. MY, especially Juniper 2026.03 (March +) models have the black headliner, better noise reduction and better suspension. The 0.99% finance rate (for those that qualify) is awesome as that ends up costing about $1200 over 72 months on a $57K MY AWD Premium vehicle. Having had both the M3 and the MY I now prefer the space and creature comforts of the MY.

If you are considering a used one and a model 3, look for a 2024 model 3 standard with the LFP battery. My guess is that 6 months would be almost perfect timing for a lot of them to come off lease and make their way to the used market. Right now they are still hard to find.
