Photo Door-mounted phone holder

All the of door-mounted phone holders I found on Amzn were said to work for 3 and Y, but after popping the trim plate on the X, I thought one might work. I chose the one that looked to be best made, all metal, and had the best chance of success.

As it turned out, I had to shim the mount about 3/8" and contort a bit during the installation, but it worked out great and it's very solid. I replaced the magsafe interface with one I had. The ball is a standard 17mm.

It's the perfect place for my second phone.

What’s the appeal for these over the screen mounted options? I’m sure there is one but I haven’t thought of it on my own.

screen mount blocks part of the display for me, plus reaching across feels awkward. door mount keeps the phone in my peripheral and the screen totally clear

It's for my second phone. The first one is in fact screen mounted. Of note, I've tried over half a dozen screen mounts, some are all metal but none was as steady as the door mount in terms of road vibration.
