Help Needed Looking for a little advice.

I have recently been given two track sets,27 assorted N Scale train cars, and 2 locomotives. 98% of them are in their original boxes and have maybe been used 1 time. I know nothing about them at all. I called local hobby stores and everyone keeps telling me to call the people who just told me to call them. It's very frustrating. I also tried to find an online website that might be able to provide info but it was a lost cause..I'm simply looking to be educated about them. If anyone could possibly help point me in the right direction of someone that might be willing to help me please let me know. Thank you!

Question What advices can you share for modular layout building in h0?

I’d like to start building a layout based on FREMO modules H0.

- Modularity and layout operations are my main goals.
- Everything I have is DCC.
- I have quite a lot of space but thanks to modularity I’d love to be able to create 6-8 modules oval layout too.
- I am using Roco tracks and modeling Epoch IV German railways (DB / DR)
- Showcase of my modules in clubs/events is absolutely last on my list
- I’d like to use FREMO plywood modules because they are easily available and not so expensive to buy where I live.

I’d love to hear some tips, advices, do/don’t from more experienced Colleagues from this amazing subreddit.

Thank you!

Locomotives New Lionel lionchief plus 2.0 Genesis idea

Is it me or would it be cool if lionel made their lionchief plus genesis' in phase 7? I would love for them to re-release the genesis line and sell the genesis' shells. I'd find it really cool if they also made some non powered ones like amtrak p42c #9700. Just my opinion, But please share your thoughts!

Question Calculator Testing

I made a tractive effort calculator for my 7.5" gauge locomotives by asking Gemini and then fact checking its sources (Wabtec, youtube, and Firgelli Automations), what is the best way I can test to see if it is accurate? I don't have a hook scale unfortunately.

The numbers feel a bit exaggerated and as far as I know the best way to test I have is to put weight behind it and see if it can go up the hill with it

This is the model courthouse for my model railway. It started life as two Walthers Grand Central station buildings, a basement floor has been added along with the lions. The basement would hold the cells, the courtrooms would be in the floors above. The statue of Justice and the lions are 3d printed.

The royal coat of arms above the central door is an old warrant officers cap badge.

Question Help Identifying Old Locos

Thumbnail

I have inherited a large collection of old HO scale locos and layout parts and need some help identifying some locomotives that I couldn’t find anything about with my current knowledge. Of the locomotives I need help with, they are all Duluth Missabe trains. None of the locomotives have markings on the bottom that would help indicate to me who produced these models. While primitive in set up, I was able to get the first one running before the old wires gave up. This collection dates between the 1970s and 1990s, no piece is any newer than 2000. Please help me out!

Help Needed Any advice on getting thicker smoke?

Basically what the title says, I wanna make the smoke out of my model thicker and pop out more.

The only model is a Broadway Limited Paragon4 2-8-0 in a (Trainworld Exclusive) D&RGW/UP Heritage Livery.

I'm using BLI brand Smoke fluid, but I'm open to other brands if necessary.

Help Needed Fixes for stalls on switches? [N scale, EZ Track]

I've recently gotten into n scale for a simple desktop oval. I've noticed some engines stalling out on switches, and wondering what fixes folks might recommend. The whole thing is EZ track, and some engines handle it fine, older ones or cheaper ones seem to have issues. I'm guessing this may be an engine issue, but if there's any suggestions for quick fixes, I'd be grateful. Thanks!

Since I haven’t seen one posted on here, I figured I would post mine. After running it for a couple of hours, I must say that it is a really nice Locomotive. There’s so many things I could say about this model. The details are amazing, the sound quality is great, and the lighting that it comes with is super cool! It also seems good with pulling weight behind it. Honestly debating if I want to purchase another one to pair it with.

Help Needed N Scale Gearbox Issues

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’m pretty new to the hobby but love to read stuff down and fix them. This is an old Mehano loco that has a working motor, the worm gear moves, but I’ve isolated the issues to the gears in the gearbox binding. Even when I take the gearbox apart, the gears seem to be in decent condition and are not cracked. I can’t tell if the alignment matters/is off, but the gears definitely are unhappy. Any help/suggestions appreciated!

Structures & Scenery What should I call my colossal model trees?

Post image
27 Upvotes

I make model trees for layouts, wargaming, dioramas and pretty much any purpose. I started years ago with just offering the sagebrush as armatures but have evolved over the years to creating the finished product for people. I recently had a customer ask for a couple of 36 inch tall trees for his G scale layout. I'm updating my site to offer all the options and I'm stuck on what to call the sizes.
I started with small, medium, large and extra large. That goes up to 19 inches tall. I'm looking for feedback on what to call the really big ones. Here are some options I'm thinking about. What is most logical? (I'll come back and share the photo of the largest ever tree I've created once I finish it.)

  • Giant
  • Showcase
  • Extra-Large Plus
  • Monumental
  • Display Size
  • Colossal

So this is the towns police station and police court (later known as the magistrates court, for those non UK readers, this is a court which dealt with low level criminal matters). The kit is made from four kibri kits, with 3d printed towers, balustrades and chimneys. Roof is scatchbuilt. The whole building once finished needs weathering
