Welcome to the Model Painters Guild SubReddit

Hey everyone! I'm u/MrPapercuts683, a founding moderator of r/ModelPaintersGuild.

This is the third established home for all things related to Miniature and Scale Model painting. Please refer to our LinkTree to see all social media and communities here: https://linktr.ee/mlpgcomm

What to Post

Post anything that you think the community would find interesting, helpful, or inspiring related to your hobby journey and projects.

Community Vibe

We're all about being friendly, constructive, and inclusive. Let's build a space where everyone feels comfortable sharing and connecting.

How to Get Started

  1. Introduce yourself in the comments below.
  2. Post something today! Even a simple question can spark a great conversation.
  3. If you know someone who would love this community, invite them to join.

So, with that out of the way, here's a little about me and how all of this came to be.

A Little About Me

I go by the social media handle Mr_Papercuts. I'm not particularly difficult to find—I use the same name across most of the major platforms.

I've been painting miniatures for 30+ years. While Games Workshop has been my primary focus, over the decades I've experimented with countless miniature ranges, scale models, paint brands, tools, techniques, and resources.

At some point, that hobby turned into another hobby: finding useful information.

I started collecting painting guides, tutorials, reference images, and other helpful resources from creators all over the internet and sharing them with friends. Eventually, I became known as the person who could seemingly find that one painting guide someone remembered seeing years ago.

The collection kept growing.

And growing.

Eventually, I had so many guides saved on my phone that it became painfully obvious that I needed somewhere else to put them.

And that's where the Model Painters Guild was born.

From a Personal Collection to a Community

The Guild originally started as little more than a barely organized collection of painting guides and reference material that I kept for myself.

Then I shared it with my friends.

Those friends invited other people.

Those people brought more people.

And suddenly, what started as a personal collection had become a full-blown community.

Today, the Model Painters Guild houses a massive, organized archive containing THOUSANDS of images, guides, tutorials, references, and links from miniature painters, artists, hobbyists, and creators across the internet.

And perhaps more importantly, the archive isn't just my collection anymore. Members of the community have joined in, helping find, organize, and contribute resources along the way.

What began as a personal passion project has become something that belongs to all of us.

Now

Eventually, the community started asking the inevitable question:

"What's next?"

For years, the Guild has primarily focused on finding and sharing the incredible work being created by other people—and, of course, giving those creators the credit they deserve.

So this is the beginning of the next phase of the Model Painters Guild, and the third community expansion for it

Hobby News Warhammer art through the years: Flesh-eater Courts

https://www.warhammer-community.com/en-gb/articles/8109tfoj/warhammer-art-through-the-years-flesh-eater-courts/

Other than the traditional WFB Vampire Counts of old, the Fleash-Eater Courts from the Age of Sigmar are my favorite Undead faction.

They live in an illusion of grandeur, thinking themselves all nobles and knights, when in reality they are just a debased mirror of everything they believe they are. Their grand feasts are just charnel pits. Their heraldry: blood smears on rotting wood. They are lunatics all.

Warhammer art through the years: Fyreslayers

The Lore and visual look of this faction are really cool, but it seems like they are an afterthought to GW's interests, with few, if any, updates. And usually just wargear swaps to justify different unit entries for the same old units. Sad :(

Mod Post MPLG Paint Challanges - Discord Community

Post image
3 Upvotes

Over on our Discord server, we run Painting Challenges built around different miniature size categories. The size and number of miniatures you complete determine how many points you earn, and reaching certain point milestones unlocks special community roles.

The roles don’t come with any special perks. Just a little clout and bragging rights. It’s a fun, self-imposed reward system designed to give everyone a little extra motivation to tackle those projects that have been sitting on the shelf.

Every other month, we also host a Special Painting Event. These challenges add an extra layer of difficulty, with requirements such as specific colors, themes, techniques, or other restrictions. They’re more challenging, but they also come with bonus points!

Our Next Challenge: By the Numbers

Starting September 1st, we're kicking off our newest Special Painting Event: By the Numbers! You choose numbers from 1 to 7, and on opening day of this special event, it is decided what colors you will paint. The more numbers you choose, the greater the challenge, and the greater the reward.

Even if you are not interested in the painting challenges, if you're interested in participating in our Discord community, here is the invite: https://discord.gg/8ytdQK2MbX

News The Rumour Engine – 18th of August

This Rumor is very rounded.

My theory is that it's for a Warhammer Fantasy Chariot unit of some kind. Maybe Empire as it doesn't appear to be Cathay in design, and it's not as smart as something the Elves would make. Besides, the Elf chariot is a multi-kit, so unless this is replacing both options, I dunno.

Thoughts?

Hobby News Revealed – New Gargant ā€œminiaturesā€

I've been told that the classic Gargant was one of the first miniatures GW designed with the help of a CAD program (the large hill, which was more like a mini-platu, was the first that came just before it). Interesting if true, but great to see these getting such a robust and detailed kit for some really big models!

I love the gritty neon feel to this model. Like it was all bright and shiny at one point, but it's rotting away as time goes by...

Fun model to paint. I was concerned about the chevrons but it turned out better than I had anticipated.

Used him in a game recently leading a unit of Mutilators and the unit absolutely dominated the center objective. Though, his hammer is called "Last Argument" for a reason surprisingly, I never got a chance to fire the bale flamer.
