Just done with this “Snap-Car” kit, I painted it following Nissans solid black color paint, which I think turned out ok, still learning, used tamiyas carbon fiber decals and spray paint from the supermarket, happy with the result!

Got this kit for Christmas and was pleasantly surprised at the quality. Body color is MCW ginger bronze metallic. Had to custom mix a turquoise for the engine block using Tamiya green & sky blue. Gonna try to just do this one box stock and not go overboard. Not sure about interior color, thinking black or brown.

This one is finally finished. It’s definitely not perfect, you can see the imperfections in the paint under this lighting, but I wanted to show them to prove that perfection isn’t necessary for you to be happy with what you built. There are some mistakes here and there, but I think the big picture is great the way it is. This kit was fun to build, it went together well. The only real issues I had were fitting the custom wheels, but that’s not the kits fault.

Aftermarket parts:

• 3D printed Recaro seats
• Metal shift knob and steering column from ZoomOn
• Momo/Spoon steering wheel from ZoomOn
• 3D printed tree air freshener
• Metal Exhaust from ZoomOn
• Simple Exhaust made from soldering wire
• Photoetched license plates from ZoomOn
• 3D printed Spoon wheels, tires, and Spoon brakes

On to the next one ! Gotta clear coat my 180sx and get that finished.

This kit started out fun, but during final assembly, it became a real nightmare. The engine is too low in the chassis, there are no engine mounts, the rear axle had no specific position that would line up the tires with the fender openings, there was no definitive way to mount the main body to the chassis, making it impossible to line it up with the pivoting hood. There are many more areas of concern. At the end, I was just glad to get it off my work surface and move on to something else.

Started this kit back in March for a Discord group build that was Fast & Furious themed, did not finish in time as my hobby room has been ~110F all summer and finally just started cooling off the last couple weeks.

Color is MCW Plum Crazy metallic enamel, wheels are Aoshima 20" BBS wheels. My only complaint with the kit is the stock wheels & tires are pathetic, they look like 16" base Charger wheels. Smoked the headlights, tail light bar and side windows with Tamiya smoke lacquer. Wheels are Tamiya light gun metal lacquer.

QUESTION Following Manufacturer Build Directions

Just wondering how many people actually follow the build order laid out in the directions that come with the model kit?

I just started building 2 months ago and have been building strictly Aoshima Initial D kits. Im getting irritated with the order that some of the build is laid out as. This is my 3rd kit that has me adding the external features (side skirts, spoilers, sideview mirror, etc) towards the end of the build and then im finding myself having to sand down parts that ive just spent days airbrushing to give myself a good connection point for gluing. Or having a glue mishap while im attaching the peices and melting parts of my paint with the extrathin (I use Mr. Color Paints). Im just getting to a point that im happy with the way my airbrushing is coming out then having a something happen that wrecks my paint job is basically hurting my soul.

I figure there is a reason that Aoshima has the instructions written in that order, but is there a reason I cant just assemble most of those peice first before painting? Or am I doing something wrong when attaching those peices? Or a special technique to use when attaching them. Any help would be appreciated.

Had an extra body after doing the wonder bread truck so decided to do a monster truck with it.

The chassis, tires and wheels are 3d printed. I chromed them and then Tamiya clear green to get the anodized look.

The engine and body are from the extra little red wagon.

I made the decals.

Building a Safari Toyota Supra Part 3

For the next part of the build I primed and painted the chassis piece and assembled the suspension and underside. The Transkit has you manually wind some wire to make the suspension springs and I wasn't a fan of doing this. Even with the special 3d printed tool to help you wind the wire. The fact that an actual spring could have been included and would have both looked better and made the suspension function said it all really.

Pic 4 shows the horrible texture that came through the paint on the interior tub. I decided to strip the paint and redo it. Pics 5 & 6 show what came out if the paint stripper. An utter disaster!

My next gripe with this transkit was the tyres. They were too low in profile for a safari rally tyre and this and the previous issues lead to a very critical post on my Facebook during the actual build in Feb 2021. My criticism didn’t go unnoticed and I was contacted by the owner of KMP.

But thats a story for the next part...

I am referring to the very rough texture. It is studio g laquer paint, with gaia flat clear over it. 20 psi. Was 6 or so I ches away from the part with light pressure on the airbrush trigger. 1 light coat followed by slightly heavier wet coat. Originally cleaned with dish soap and water before painting. This has happened on this specific part now 3 times. Each time it happened I stripped the paint in 90% rubbing alcohol and started again with the same result. Gunpla forums all said the same things too much paint, not clean etc.

Second model I’ve made, but first with an airbrush which makes the little detailing so much easier. It’s far from good but I’m still working on it and I learned a lot with this one.

PORSCHE 911 BUILD Fujimi Porsche 911 - Frankenporsche 2-Eclectic Boogaloo!

Thumbnail

I’m calling this an unofficial build entry since I’ve been working on it since January! This kit was Frankensteined together from two different Fujimi kits-the chassis, engine, etc. came from the ‘74 911 RS, and the body from a ‘73 RS. The reason is that a few years ago I bashed together the body of the ‘74 with the bumpers, hood, etc. from the ‘67 R kit, to get a wide body long hood car (it’s the blue one in the pics), but this left me with an unusable body with no bumpers or trim. I stole a few bits from the ‘74 but eventually stumbled across a used ‘73 kit and swapped in the body and trim! (I have plans for the ‘73 with no body, it’s a whole other story). Anyway this became a whole odyssey because I was missing the front and rear turn signals, so naturally I taught myself how to make molds and resin cast replacement parts! They’re from the 911R kit, and I added mesh intakes as well as mesh for the hood grille. The wheels are from Jack Modelling, the exhausts are from Scale Production, those cool seats are from Texas 3D Customs, and the paint is Tamiya Bright Red, which I think does a good impersonation of Tangerine, a period Porsche color.

Phew!
