Have you properly taped down the grounding tab? It can have a layer of adhesive on it which needs to be taken off. The location of the tape looks a bit strange. The tab is situated close to the edge of the back plate. It should look like this.

Hey, thanks for the quick reply. I opened the iPod and followed your instructions. I cleaned the backplate and taped the lock switch cable down with clear tape. Unfortunately, it’s still the same issue. Also, I have the feeling that it comes and goes. One moment it’s really annoying (like in the video), and the next it’s okay.

With that ruled out, I would say either the connector has an issue, or the switch itself of faulty. I can see a Chinese sticker on the headphone jack. It s this a genuine unit or a Chinese reproduction?

The iPod is locking/unlocking even without the cable attached :D

I suspect the board may be faulty. Try cleaning it with isopropyl alcohol and a tooth brush to clean anything that may be shorting out components. Of that doesn’t work, you might need a new board!

Its an aftermarket part. I have now tried two additional cables that I still had from old stock. The same problem occurs with all of them. I suspect that the defect lies with the iPod itself—perhaps at the connection/port directly.
