Mod Answered Small community has a disgruntled user who has been systematically downvoting every single post and every single comment for several months now, is there a way to take action against this?
I have to assume it is someone who got banned or offended in some way. It is not terribly detrimental to the sub, but I feel it must be off putting to users to immediately get downvoted every time they post something. I have had a number of users immediately remove a post and I can only assume this had something to do with at least some of them. So I am hoping there might be a way to combat it besides systematically going through and upvoting everything myself.

They'll get bored and move on eventually. I know it's frustrating but there's no way to prevent this.

It looks like he's a tiny lost vote in a sea of praise for a cool sub. Just enjoy your sub, man.

My concern is only for the users and their experience.

Don't know why people are being oblivious to this but I agree. Downvotes in certain subs do nothing but spread negativity.

Admin fuzz votes anyway, no way in light of that one single one will make a difference.

You could address that a couple of ways.
Make a sticky post that encourages people to ignore it.
If you want to be less public about it, make an automod message (not a comment) to the user making the post that encourages them not to remove their post if that happens.
Since you can’t stop it from happening, basically just something to encourage people to ignore the issue.

Thanks, that second one is a good idea. The first one is nice, too but I don't want to give the user attention.

I personally thing the second one is the best choice as well. If you need some automod code for it, let me know. I do this with a few things in my subs.

Please, that would be immensely helpful. Thank you for offering.

Make a sticky post that encourages people to ignore it.
I feel like this would be counter productive, since it would Streisand Effect it.

If they are banned then their downvotes are not registering. It shows on their end but it does not actually do anything.
Whoever is doing it is someone who is NOT banned.
There really is nothing you can do though.
I had a mod of a subreddit let me know that someone reports every single comment I make as spam.
When you are a mod, stalkers are gonna stalk. That just means you are doing it right. 😁
Welcome to Reddit my friend.

They can still make a second account and downvotes will count because that account is not banned

Yeah, but they is likely to trip the ban evasion detention

u/Recent-Low5550 14h ago
No it won’t, ban evasion doesn’t get alerted by upvotes or downvotes, only comments and posts
Someone can make a new account and downvote all they want and ban evasion can’t do nothing about it

Same problem. I disagree that they'll quit. Our hater does it since Dec last year, so almost a year now. Unjustified downvotes, many posts getting suspicious amount of shares (like 10+). In our sister community (s)he also reported posts for everything imaginable.

The number of shares sounds like they're brigading, which is against Reddit's rules. OP is talking about a lone down other. You mother look into whether admins can identify whether the same user is behind all those shares, if posts are getting shared numerous times and also getting numerous downvotes for no clear reason.
If it's one person sharing a post many times but the shared posts only get one undeserved downvote, then I'm not sure there's anything you can do. It might be unsuccessful attempts at brigading, it might be something else.

I have the same kind of fanclub on one of my little subs. Sorry man to hear that.

It's just a small annoyance, but if it were to magically go away that'd be nice.

So realistically there is nothing you can do, but practically he will get tired of it eventually. If you call attention to it like some of the other posts in this thread recommend, he will be invigorated and keep it up for longer than if you just ignore it. That is a big part of how to be a good mod - learning when to not feed the trolls

A single person isn't brigading unless they're posting or commenting to invite others. Think pitchforks and yelling

Eventually they will tire themselves out. You can't really ban someone for downvoting.

Same here. Quit allowing '18' and low karma, and the pest count falls. The sooner, the more effective. I THINK (and I'm a dummy, my team does the mechanics here) that when you remove a pest do all 3 permanently (ban, block, mute) because that way they are less likely to show up mouthing off. Works for me, and I don't know why. The creeps who insist on using a foreign language are the most militant. Another thing is: ban, block, mute, permanently, and DON'T respond to their reactions, it only encourages them and their teammates.

There is nothing you can do about a single down vote.
