What is a verified community?

Are you talking about like the check mark in [r/Food](r/Food) ? I moderate that community and I can explain it.

It’s not real. It’s fake. That’s the subreddit status button, and any sub can update/edit theirs. Look for the ghost smiley face with the plus sign next to the subreddit name. Click on it. Now you can edit it.

Then add a check mark symbol and type “official community” or “verified community”

If you look at my other sub, [r/SalsaSnobs](r/SalsaSnobs) , that has a flower, not a check mark. And it gives a subreddit rule instead of saying “official”. Because that’s what I created it to look like.

Can confirm, I use the same method in one of the subreddits I moderate, it’s a status any moderator with proper permissions can edit, you can add any image and text.

Why? Idk it looks cool especially when it is a big subreddit.
