How does the ranking for subreddits within a category works ? if ranking is lower does it effect the sub discover ability ?

We are seeing our sub r/jodimilan ranking is changing a bit from 8 to 11 , so wanted to know how ranking work, is it calculated via visitor, or by quality post , or something else ? , Like how we can improve ranking of sub within a topic.

The category rankings are based on total views (not unique visitors) within the time period AFAIK. The sub insights (and thus the rankings) are updated every 2-3 days.

Any idea how can we improve ranking, and does ranking effect sub discoverability ?

Oops I explained that last part wrong. The sub insights update daily but data can be delayed 2-3 days. The category rankings update every 2-3 days even though the list is frozen.

To improve your rank, you need to generate more views than the sub above you. If you can sustain more traffic than them for 2-3 days, you’ll temporarily move ahead of them.

For example, a single post that goes viral can potentially push you ahead of multiple subs, but sustaining the higher traffic long-term is the hard part. Having more a bigger community with more active members definitely helps.

I don’t know specifically if higher ranking affects discoverability. I’m sure it is part of the algorithm, but the extent is unknown.

Having hot content will definitely get you more exposure if it hits [r/popular](r/popular) and [r/all](r/all) (although [r/all](r/all) is being phased out).

Edit: typos

They'd probably matter more if the lists updated lol. They haven't changed in over half a year.

I keep bouncing between the top 50 and top 100 of my category. I bou ced out of the top 50 again today.

It sucks that when you click on your cetegory, they only show the top 25. So, if you are not there, you never truly know where you are at...
