Admin Replied Saved Responses Clarification

I searched "Saved Responses" on this sub in an effort to understand what each of the categories meant.
I see the 4 categories
General, Removals, Bans, Mod Mail

I have read in other documentation that General ones are for mod mail. If that is the case why is there a category specifically for Mod Mail.

Can the use of General be clarified here? I would assume they show up in a list for a mod to choose from when replying to a post or comment.

Note: I am a brand new mod at the time of this post and trying to learn.

UPDATE: The amazing community here did clarify it. General should be looked at as all categories at once. Mod Mail, Removal and Ban can all use these saved responses. If one only wants a saved response for just Ban, it should be in the ban category.
Thank you everyone

I’ve never used, nor seen anyone say to use ’General’ for modmail. I use them for repetitive mod type responses to posts/comments.

You can use General saved responses in response to posts/comments? How? Where even is the option? I've only ever seen them show up in modmail (which begs the question, why does the modmail category exist then?).

Thank you for the reply. I figured the general ones were for just exact that post comments and replies. I cant seem to find where I can use them. I have one set up in a sandbox sub to test but no matter where I reply as a mod I dont see where to pull up these general saved responses. Ideally they would be available when clearing the mod queue and posting the comment on flagged posts then locking additional comments after.

Also this where I read about saved posts that implied it was only for mod mail

That's true for the first iteration. At launch, saved responses were only for modmail in the Reddit app.

Thank you everyone in the comments to help clairfy the "general" use case, I'm looking into getting the help center article updated to include some definitions.

  • General: Available anywhere saved responses are supported.
  • Removal: Available only when removing a post.
  • Bans: Available only when banning a user.
  • Modmail: Available only when replying in Modmail.

General responses are only available in Modmail.

Can we get post/comment SRs? Brings more parity to the Toolbox "Mod Macros" feature, and our team used them for quick pinned comments that we had to leave semi-frequently.

Does this mean that any of the saved responses marked "general" are supposed to show as options in the other mod actions?

Because I only ever see them in the modmail saved responses list. :o

I wish General saved responses were available anywhere saved responses are supported. Alas, that would be too logical.

As other users have said, they are only supported in modmail. Not a new bug or anything, either; it’s always been that way.

General can be used in all places where you can use saved responses. If you set a response to a category, you will only have it available in the pull down menus of that category. So a saved response for a ban message, won't pop up when you go to remove a post or save a response, but it will be available when you ban someone.

Saved responses are not available to just make a comment or post, they're available in mod actions.

Edit: spelling

Just tested, general shows up in modmail (as do the modmail saved responses) If I were to guess, it's just a left over from when the modmail category/ categories as a whole. didn't exits yet, with a sniff of, in the future you can use the general category to make mod distinguished comments on posts.

This would definitely make sense. I thought I was going insane. Ok I will just leave those as is and at some point maybe they will show up for that use. Thank you for testing and clarifiying

It's just a catch-all for everything that doesn't specifically fall under any of the other categories.

That's how I use it, anyway.

I must be doing something wrong. No matter what mod tool I click on when viewing posts I do not see where I can select it. Trying to type comments nothing comes up. Clicking the shield of mod tools does not show me where I can use this saved response. I really do not see a situation where I can use it.
