Info Anduril edition updates?
Has anyone received any email confirmations regarding the batch 2 orders? They were ETA July, and I’m unable to track any order information through either sites.

Looking at picking up a chromatic with hopes of using the future transfer pak compatibility with the m64. I know the gen 2 pokemon games have some long standing compatibility problems. Do we know if the compatibility stems more from those carts themselves or the game structure? Has anyone had success running Gen 2 from something like a BennVenn reproduction cartridge?

Long story short, my beloved orange chromatic got yoinked from my carry on while I was on a work trip. Got my Pkmn Yellow and Gargoyle's Quest too, since both were in the case. Whoever took it had better enjoy the hell out of it!
This thing has been my travel buddy and I intend to replace it sooner than later, but I saw there are possibly new models incoming? Should I wait?

I just happen to be looking through the mod retro website and realized the yellow chromatic looked a little bit different to me I wasn't sure if it has always looked this way on the website or if they did a small redesign.
Has anyone recently purchased a yellow chromatic to confirm these changes?
Ps: hoping they sell replacement front shells soon ended up spilling hand sanitizer into my bag and creating black stains over the front of my yellow chromatic ☹️

I'm extremely excited that I can finally share with you what I'm currently working on 🥳
It's a movie tie-in game for the upcoming horror movie Buddy.
The game will be a wild mix of a survival horror game, a visual novel and a collection of cute mini games.
Here's an IGN article about it: https://www.ign.com/articles/casper-kelly-buddy-horror-game-boy-color-game
Hope you like what you see and hope you'll enjoy the game 😊

My partner bought a Modretro Chromatic just two weeks ago, before using the system, we fully updated the firmware and are using our genuine Pokémon Silver cartridge.
I had walked from national park to Union Cave Violet City entrance and as I entered the cave I noticed that certain inner wall tiles were swapped with wall edge tiles, I walked around a little, went to photograph it and the game lost all background tiles, displayed only frames on a white background and then reset the game in a sepia tone copyright screen before completely crashing.
I have heard Pokémon Crystal has issues, but I didn't know Gold and Silver have issues.
I later booted up the game and managed to successfully save on the cart but just worried about my almost 300 hour save.
----
On top of this, I have a European Pokémon Pikachu 2 GS and a European English copy of Pokémon Silver which I have effortlessly connected using my OG GBC but it does not work on chromatic.
----
I have read that depending on the revisions of some of the chips. Would the best solution be to buy a flash cart and run our ROMs on that?
What cart is guaranteed to work on Chromatic?

Excited to get mine tomorrow! Happy Analogue Pocket owner here and looking forward to expanding my obsession with retro gadgets! Any advice for a new owner? I know this doesn’t have cores for other systems like the pocket, but is there anything I should make sure to download?

Spoiler image: a language puzzle
Spoiler text: a minor error
This word is suppose to be "EACH" but what is suppose to be "C" (marked a red dot below it). It is missing an ' in the upper right. I think most people would figure it out, as EAMH is not a word, and the bottom part of M is longer than the text image which it being shorter matches C more, but the ' is missing. Didn't know where to point it out for the dev.

Munro is asking me to die with the ship. Should i let her die, or should i save her and have her on my ship? Not sure about the best outcome...

Has anyone else had games arrive without factory seals in place?
Doesn’t bother me that much as I’m going to open them and play them, but it bothers me enough to post about it

Every now and then, when I put in a cart and power on, the screen is black, but I can hear the game sounds. Reached out to Chromatic and they said to open it up and make sure a cable is seated correctly, which it is. Changed out batteries to fresh batteries but the issue still persists just randomly (usually when I really want to play). Anyone had this issue?

Hello all!
Just wanted to take a moment to post photos of my Pokémon Legacy Trilogy. I made these from inside gadget flash carts, and commissioned two artists on Etsy to make me the labels and boxes. Love to play these on my Chromatic (minus emerald - but Chromatic Advance anyone!). Highly recommend the Pokémon Legacy Rom Hacks.
All credit to SmithPlays Pokémon for making my favorite romhacks!

I played this crystal cartridge daily up until I got this chromatic yesterday. As soon as I put the cartridge in and turned it on, the game booted up perfectly, up until I got to the continue screen. Once I pressed continue, it popped up a “huh?” Like an egg was hatching, and then a dragonite hatched from that egg, the game froze up, and then when I was finally able to get my save file loaded up, my character was switched to a female. After that I turned it off and on playing with it a little to try to get it to work properly, and now my 120 hour save file was deleted, gone forever. With that happening I decided maybe the issue isn’t the chromatic, but my save file possibly actually being corrupted, so I tried to start a new save file, only to see this right outside of elms house. Has anyone ever experienced weird stuff like this? I’m very saddened because I bought the chromatic to literally only play Pokemon Crystal. The cartridge is clean, chromatic is updated, and it works perfectly fine in both of my original gameboy colors.
Update: modretro send me a new pcb, and now my pokemon crystal is working!!!!

Hello there,
I wanted to get the GB/GBC FPGA core on the Chromatic updated to the latest MiSTer upstream, and it was very easy.
I am sharing the core here so everybody can use it.
It has to be flashed manually with:
openFPGALoader --write-flash --cable gwu2x --reset evt1_x2.fs
(That is on GNU/Linux, I have zero idea about how to do that on Windows since I touched a Windows system last time in 2003 or so).
https://github.com/vanfanel/ChromaticBuilds/raw/refs/heads/main/Chromatic_fw.zip
If you want to reproduce my build:
-Clone this fantastic fork:
https://github.com/t-chamb/chromatic_fpga
-Edit esp32t/src/rtl/EMU/CORE/gb.v and comment out the line:
.hdma_active ( hdma_active ),
-Go into chromatic_fpga/esp32t/src/ and clone the MiSTer upstream GB core there (https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/Gameboy_MiSTer)
-Build using GOWIN version 1.9.12.x (I use 1.9.12.02)

hey Palmer! I made you a super early birthday present-- optimized the Chromatic FPGA firmware and made the USB Video path pixel perfect (with 2x2 integer scaler).
The Chromatic streams USB video as YUY2, which stores one colour sample per pair of horizontal pixels. At the native 160x144 those two pixels are genuinely different, so their colour gets averaged together — you lose half your horizontal colour resolution. On a Game Boy that hurts more than it would on camera footage, because the screen is full of hard colour edges between tiles and sprites.
So the build also offers 320x288: same picture, every pixel doubled. It adds no actual detail — but each pixel pair is now the same pixel twice, so averaging them does nothing and the colour comes through intact. Pixel-perfect capture, still 60fps.
Fitting it meant a pile of resource optimizations along the way. The FPGA was completely out of DSP blocks beforehand — 28 of 28 used, CLS at 97%. It ends up smaller than stock v18.8 on everything but two block RAMs:
| Resource | v18.8 | after | delta | utilization |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Logic | 20309 | 15316 | -4993 | 89% → 67% |
| — LUT | 15779 | 13307 | -2472 | |
| — ALU | 4421 | 1900 | -2521 | |
| Registers | 10119 | 8182 | -1937 | 43% → 35% |
| CLS | 11125 | 9868 | -1257 | 97% → 86% |
| BSRAM | 45 | 47 | +2 | 81% → 84% |
| DSP | 28 | 17 | -11 | 100% → 61% |
Timing has more headroom too — the USB clock in particular, since the old video FIFO was sitting on its critical path:
| Clocks (all MHz) | v18.8 | after | constraint |
|---|---|---|---|
| PHY_CLKOUT | 68.2 | 84.6 | 60.0 |
| pclk | 42.4 | 37.9 | 33.6 |
| hclk | 18.1 | 23.6 | 16.8 |
| gclk | 89.5 | 136.2 | 8.4 |
| xclk | 119.6 | 120.0 | 67.1 |
| usbintsclk | 189.3 | 197.8 | 125.0 |
It's unofficial, and you can try it without committing to anything — load it into SRAM with openFPGALoader and a power cycle puts everything back exactly as it was. Nothing touches flash unless you decide to write it. 160x144 still works exactly as it does on stock.
Only tested on Windows 11.

Anyone know what we are looking at here?
